Does the word PASING ring any bells? This art or science is usually taught during the rites of passage especially in the Senegambia. It could be in the form of spoken words or signs. Then i used to see them as means of torturing the youngones, by the SELBEHS or KINTANGOES, but i was wrong. Its now i appreciate the full worth. The other day i visted a friend and he was in a hurry to meet me just frm the bathroom, his truser wasnt zipped up, i made the PASING to him and he immedaitely redress the situation without much embrassement.A PASING saved the day.

Madis,
'Pahsing' is more common among the Jolas. Instead, many others were done on the 'kintangs' as well by the more senior 'Kintangs'. The one you mentioned is normally done by a "kurfeng"/hand fold, with a tip of thumb finger [number five (5)] sandwiched and pointing out. Such values are very nice, but come when you visit these places, and a "pahsing" is on your way which you cannot solve....trouble! trouble! In ours, where it is mixed with all Gambian cultures, a 'kankurang' or senior 'kintang' will beat the 'ehh' out of you.
*kankurang -a masquerade dressed in red material, normally backs of trees, clothings, etc... *Pahsing -a traditional ridule. *Kintangs -during circumcisition festivals, the ones looking after the ones circumcised. *Kurfeng -when you fold the fingers of your hand, making an irregular circle.
From the episode though, it is a bizz, i tell yaa...is it a s/he? ....you must have been blinded by the sight of the crazy pic...ps. pretend like you didn't see it. You got this funny jokes...ha ha ha ha! tell admin to take you to the humor section cuz I am ready to share some bizz.(: (:

Bro. Madis,
This was a kind of punishment inflicted on people at the circumcision rituals. May be Kons might be able to translate it for us. But for short, hands and legs are tied with a rope, together with a stick (chawel in pularr)...it is done in a way such that one cannot move around. sometimes, you are placed in the burning sun for a while, and you know how hot the sand gets on a sunny day...chei ndesaaan!
