Note: This is a poem of tribute to my humble comrades, namely Demba, Lamma, and Solo. It is extended in tribute to all our well wishers and contributing guests. I think a moment to pay tribute is worth the time. We must begin to appreciate ourselves and those around us. With it, we can extend the message of love and unity that others may emulate.

R U Ready?

Gainako
Soon to be an echo aloud
the mooo from the humble cow
with sharpened horns as spears
defending the territorial boundaries
while holding a national flag
belonging to all with clear conscience
fighting for the oppressed
the ordinary and the enslaved.

Soon to be an echo aloud
quote:
guardianship and independence

with Demba and Lamma holding the flag
while Solo supporting its base
and little Dalton holding the touchlight
creating desenting rays of light
in all directions of the globe
healing the hearts, healing.

Soon to be an echo aloud
shame to those befooled enemies
with hearts full of jealousy and hate
and shame to the tyrants as well
with hearts full of evil thoughts
come rain, come shine
we will prevail with our flag high
quote:
guardianship and independence.

Soon to be an echo aloud
In God we trust
and with Him, we will prevail
as that brand of choice
among the many at struggle
only as a true complement
to those on true struggle
so we fall and rise.

In God we trust
So shall we prevail.

We welcome the emergence of the 'revised' GAINAKO. I think a complete make-over has been over due. Over the years GAINAKO has not been successful, in my view, in establishing itself as a premier online news outlet like FREEDOM and to some extent THE ECHO.
The new GAINAKO should not only be more user friendly, but it must also engage in aggressive news reporting by getting the news first and getting it right the first time. This might require more reporters and resources but the result will pay off over time.
Captivating editorials, feature stories/articles and interviews with prominent (knowledgeable) individuals must be maintained.
Okay perhaps you should change the name of your paper from GAINAKO to a more recognizable one that does not limit your readership. Afterall my experience is that GAINAKO ( Fulani for cattle herder-my wife is a Fulani please) is a lousy name in Mandinka.
I know some of these suggestions are already in place at GAINAKO, so you are already on a sound footing. Good luck!

Bro Kay,

Much respect to your critique which is worth looking at as an opinion. There are always two sides to a coin, and that makes this world fair and balance. I totally share with you that a new Gainako face was way over due. You and the many other fans of Gainako will like the new face. This truly owes it fact to limited resources. Gainako is fully sponsored by only its editors. We like that it helps us keep our independence, without having a gift from someone influencing our editorial independence. I encourage you to keep this trend of critique while it is with clear conscience -much respect and thanks!

Among Gambians are people who reserve themselves too much, kind of stingy and economical with truth and actions -that is to say when it is time to do action, you dont see them around. That is a stumbling block to tegetherness, progress and unity. If everyone does little, even in terms of writing, then that hightens the status quo. Even simple petitions cannot be signed. You know what I mean...much more to talk of contributions in terms sponsoring certain programs, like sports for example.

At Gainako, we contribute directly or indirectly to most outlets you see around. We havent created barriers. Matter of fact, we commend and complement any online outlet without any jealousy or hatred. If sharing information is needed, they will tell you Gainako has been best at it. One thing though, it is a competitive race short-off, and to honestly say, we will compete in integrity and jealously safeguard hot news items, stories, et et cetera... Infact Gainako from the onset defined itself as a complement to all those in struggle. We stay in operations because of the respect given to us by thousands of Gambians and their friends, all over the world. We will, God willing, do everything within our capability not to let those compatriots down.

In terms of operations, we have a vibrant Solo whose reportage is renowned, with over 20 years of journalism experience, powering Gainako live from the ground with his many associates. We rather report and truthfully inform Gambians and their friends than engage in tabloid, hate on individuals, petiness or exercising dictatorial tendencies. It couldnt be more misconstrued when any comprehensive individual cannot see that Gainako -Shepherd, means guardiance and independence. It depicts a sickness in itself, especially after people followed its trend for over two years that one can still sense it different. Cheik Anta Diop would tell you that -a clear conscience fears no accusation. We leave that to God and sound judgments. Sometimes, others among us are overly curious and complex. They only want know who is who, from what background, from what family, so forth, and so forth. This, in the end tampers with their judgments, albeit underating or just an urge to get someone down. In surah Baqara -the Cow, God Almighty gave a scenario. In it, those given a cow, asked for specific cow, specific that, specific that, et cetera...The same with those that were given a camel and cut its tendons. So essentially history always repeats itself. It is human. The struggle is not about that. It is about lifting one another up.

Among the many around, we continually court a lot -in the best interest of the paper, needless to mention their names. Many are called but few are chosen. That makes Gainako unique, that is to say no single individual can be associated with the paper. It belongs to Gambians and their friends.

There couldnt be a perfect name than Gainako, in our humble opinion. That is attested by the many who expressed their opinions in the open and by private mail. Even the greatest icon of times, Nelson Mandella of South Africa titled himself a humble Gainako. From it, he learnt how to be a unifying world figure.
quote:
Everything has a name-Keller, the educated blind.
Prophet Musa, PBUH was no less a Shepherd and many other chosen ones of God. Even most scriptures call God, a shepherd, notably the bible which from your postings here, you acquanted so yourself to so much. So to down play the name just because it is in pularr cannot resonate with minds of clear conscience, however it is good that you expressed how you perceived the name. Others see it different, coming back to the two faces of a coin.

In the end, thanks for your observations, and while greatly valued, it will remain an open subject of discussion among our editorial team. If there is any feedback as we decide on the table, you will be notified by either a post here or by private mail. I am currently visiting Family members in Africa, and will join the rest of you soon -inshallahu, but feel free to contact Demba directly on e-mail, dbaldeh@myuw.net, tel:425-319-0884. Demba is very strong and welcomes all suggestions, even if they are just for suggestion sake. I think it will cost you a free call from Kentucky to Seattle -all states within the U.S.

Humbly submitted,
yj, on behalf of GON.

It is also extended to all readers and well wishers.

let anyone interested in participating do so at will; to educate and interact in discussions as time permits.

I rest my case!
