Beautiful darkness surrounds
Dim lit circuits at night
Drum beats and clappers abound
Dancing in groups or singles
Merry makers revel to jangling jingles
Glimpsed once in every little while
As lightening flashes scour the sky above
Are the caboodle of revellers
In the village square

Tonight sends the bride
To the groom in pride
Accompanied by mates
Dancing with joy till late
When the twain join in the bridal chambers
To consummate their love
But the kora jungjung and balafung
Played that night is for the joy of all
Exposed only by intermittent flashes of lightening
Then one steals visions of sneaked kisses
Exchanged in the dark
Surreptitious love moves
Tended to gain ground
When no one is watching

The naughty lightening
Comes in to steal their thunder
Making some freeze in their acts
Fearing exposure and shame
Lewdness being taboo
The games of lovers thrive anon
Some winning
Others losing
Out in the dark square
Where lightening flashes
Interfere with impudence
