Hi readers!

How is it going? I thought I’d drop you a note to let you know that we’ve got the series Banjul Cops at eyesoda.com. For lovers of Gambia, Africa, African films, women made films and detective stories this series, made for Gambian television, is a Must.

Yes, also Africa has its detectives and Gambia is the country where it all happens. More specific, the town of Banjul where everything is filmed entirely on location.

The ten episodes are written and directed by Segun Oguntola and produced by VINASHA Productions Ltd.

In the first episode Delia Law (Babette Mindy Lind) is the new partner of detective Morris Justice (Moodu Mussa Ceesay), of Banjul Police Force. Together they have to find a criminal organ snatcher.

Thanks!

Bought this series about 5 years ago in Harry's supermarket, Kairaba Ave. It's good fun and I actually have the poster for it in my classroom and use extracts with my students ......

But - it is also a little dated now .....

Hi Lily! Nice to see you back here (but already preparing for leaving us again, i read the other day). Might be fun, this series.. Now, i wonder what you use these extracts with your students for. Not 'detecting methods', i suppose.

When an old African dies, it is as if a whole library has burnt down.

Hello! Great to read your reactions. The series are a few years old indeed. Never mind, lots of films not made today are still worth seeing. Banjul Cops have written history: First Gambian detective series ever. The episodes show African subjects, packed in a western film style. It's this combination, together with e.g. good acting of the main characters, good camerawork and a light sense of humour, that make the series unique.

Actually the Gambian writer and director, Segun Oguntola, asked Eyesoda.com to promote the series, as she believes they deserve a larger, international, public. Revenues are directly split with her.
