Will this new law cut accident injuries ? Will the banning of mobile phones whilst driving have any effect OR is this a hidden tax to pay for the police.

But T1020, don't you think this is a good thing (although i was always very happy not to have to put on the safety belts in that heat, i hate these things - so confining)? On the other hand, in our country we are fined if we do not use them and if we are using our cellphones while driving (unless 'handsfree' - how about that in the Gambia, the article doesn't say), so why not there? If paying a fine here is 'a kind of tax to pay for the police', so it is in the Gambia - at least, like with us, it is extra income for the Government. At the same time it is a protective precaution, which is necessary in the Gambia (think of the cows or goats crossing the roads unexpectedly in the dark) and here as well (because of busy roads and unexpected situations in the chaotic traffic) - i think the Gambian government did well while introducing these measures. By the way, as early as January 2005 we were fined in Senegal for driving without having our safety belts on. Now all we have to do is wait for the West African governments to install parking meters
Just as long as they won't come up with a ban on smoking in public places like restaurants..........then it is no use going there anymore because it will be too much like 'home'
