The Guinean President, Lansana Conte died at age 74 of diabetes related illness. General Conte who(succeeded Seikou Touray in 1984) in a military coup one month after Seikou Touray's death, was a typical African head of state. He initially experimented with democracy but gradually drifted toward autoritarianism, recently banning major opposition political parties in Guinea.

What a heart bleeding for this peace -loving nation which is hard to compare with other neighbouring country and rich in mineral but like other African country is as always,A one step forward and two step back. Sadly indeed.

The colossal status of tyrants shall crumble as in the first instance they were not laid down on foundations of justice and so termites of retribution chew away at their bases and when they fall the debris covers the environment on which they thrived as does the effects of a sand storm. Just take a look at the Guinean hegemony , one would have thought Lasana's demise would assure a peaceful transition to power but as it stands it showed the exact opposite, to wit, a bucket full of crash rush of power hungry louts grappling for the presidential seat, shame on on our African psyche, when shall we get it right? |

"Throughout history, the way of love and truth has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for some time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall" Ghandi
He did not die until he sacrificed some Gunineans. Now Guniea will move on without him and if he thought that he was Guniea, then let him ressurect himself.
It reminds me the death of Prohet Muhammad (PBUH). It was reported that Ali threatened to behead anyone who said that the Prophet had died. It was Abubakarr who called the Muslims to a gathering and said: " If anyone worshipped Muhammad, then he should know that Muhammad is dead. Who ever worships God, should know that God never dies"
MANSA KILING NA MANSA YAA TEH DUNIYA BANG NA.
Its a tragedy that between 1958 and 2008- a span of 50 years, Guinea would practically have only two Presidents. Until every son and daughter on that continent stopped thinking of being "President For Life", we will never see progress.
Man never learns from history and that history will always repeat itself but with a difference. |

Will Gambians allow Yaya Jammeh to misrule and die on that seat even at that level of vegetable existence?

Kondorong,
In the event of Jammeh having to die in power, Gambia will stay under military misrule as the junta in Guinea now prefer. We have to take lessons. |

Yesterday, i was listening to Jammeh's interview on BBBC in 1994 few days after the Coup. I heard the following
1. "We are not here for a witch hunt" 2. "One man perpetuates himself in power" 3."Flamboyant Cars" 4. "Term limits" 5. "Independent Electoral Commission"

These soldiers should stay in the barracks. I believe they should join or form political parties and let the pupulation choose who should govern the country. Sadly, many African soldiers are cowards because the only way they seem to achieve their political goals is to take power by the use arms. I hope someone put sense in their heads so that Guinea returns immediately to constitutional rule. |

Guinea is hugely divided country along tribal lines. The main belligerents for control are Fulas, Malinke and Susu. Sekou Toure was Malinke , whilst the Late Conteh was a Susu. The Main oppositions were Fulas, Late Sirandiou Diallo, Mamadou Bah and the Malinke heavy weight Alpha Conde. I won't be surprised that the coupists are predominantly Susu for want of perpectuity. If they had gone according to the constitution where the Speaker of the house assumes the presidency until fresh elections are held, the Susu separists could 'lose' out.
Until we see each other beyond tribe and self first Africa will continue to lag behind. |

You wrote exactly what i wanted to say. So i have nothing further to say.Tribe tribe tribe... all nonesense.
Guinea is a country that functions entirely on patronage where everyone wants to relive his/her ancestral influence. Good luck to them |

Thanks Konds. Guinea should have learnt from her neighbours, notably Liberia where her forces helped to bring stability. Becuase of these uncertainties, many Guineans prefer to live and work outside la Guinee. Its a country with a huge brain drain maybe only next to Benin republic in West Africa. The combination of its rich deposits and impressive human resources, Guinea could have been a prosperous country. Tribalism is one of the biggest obstacles to our progress. One thing i like about Senegal,is tribe is secondary most of the time if not at all times. |

It appears that the Frech policy of assimilation worked better in Senegal than any French speaking West Africa. It was alsothe seat of the Empire. |
