Kabila of DRC fought his way as bush soldier to capture the seat of president from ailing Mobutu. Kabila died in the brutal way he would have killed Mobutu.

Edi Amin was no lesser rebel. He chased the Asians and traumatised university students during his days of terror. He died in exile.

Charles Taylor turned Liberia from Africa's America to the ruins of a warring nation. He was flung out, gone into exile and captured while fleeing from Nigeria. He now faces war crime charges.

Yahya Alfonse Jamus Jammeh raped Gambia's virgin democracy. He fooled the nation about plans of returning to barracks. He now serves a brutal terror of state since July 1994

Jerry Rawlings staged two coups in rebellion of what he saw as bad rule in Ghana. Has he done any better? H e came to Gambia by invitation of Yahya Jammeh and warned Yahya to surrender power. Taylor declared his regrets but Yahya would not listen.

Please extend the list of Africa's rebel presidents if you know more.
