I personally do not sponsor individual children.
I donate in others ways as well.

All too many times I see well meaning people offer sponsorship and then after a few years this is withdrawn (sometime though no fault of their own) and the child's left with no funds and no school place.
Private fees are on the rise and as the child progresses though school the fees increase.

There are some excellent state schools with switched on staff that just need basic equipment too enable them to offer a rich curriculum, money much better spent in my mind.

I do agree though if you give, it should be a gift. I don't get the stress of they spent the money on this or that way. If its money for school fees then pay the school direct, visit the school get to know exactly what your money is being used for.

I agree Turk the lack of opportunity for adult education is poor. Training is the key whether it is medical projects or teaching projects or vocational studies, but it is not just funding that needs to be found, its trainers in these projects this is also the problem.
Even within the private sector there's still a need for good solid training.
