Ascension or "Al-Mi'rag" are significant events in both Christianity and Islam! Both have different revelations but very important to support certain arguments between these two faiths! Now lets examine the stories and puropses

In christianity; Theologian R. C. Sproul has stated, “The claim of resurrection is vital to Christianity. If Christ has been raised from the dead by God, then He has the credentials and certification that no other religious leader possesses. Buddha is dead. Mohammad is dead. Moses is dead. Confucius is dead. But, according to … Christianity, Christ is alive.”2 . Therefore on that note they said that "he has the credentials and certification that no other religious leader possesses. Buddha is dead. Mohammad is dead. Moses is dead. Confucius is dead." and "only resurrection " after visiting God and heaven

However in Islam "The Night Journey" is another landmark event on "Pray As You Have Seen Me Pray!"! Follow story (a muslim faith version) below; courtesy of Darusalam:-

The Night Journey

One calm night in Makkah, one year before migration (Hijirah) to Madina...

The roof of the Prphet Muhammad's house was opened while he was sleeping, and the Noble Angel Gabriel came towards him

He opened his chest, removed his gheart, and washed it with Zamzam water.

He then brought a vessel made of gold containing wisdom and faith. He emptied the vessel into the noble chest of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) and then closed it up.

Gabriel woke the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and took him by his hand to the gate of sacred Ka'bah.

There, the Prophet (p.b.u.h) saw a white creature, smaller tha a mule, larger than a donkey with wings on each side of its hind legs.

The Prophet (p.b.u.h) mounted the creature and they took off North to Bayl Al- Maqdis in Jerusalem. This part of journey is referred to as Al-Isra'a.

"Glory be Him (Allah) who took his slave (Muhammad) one night from Al-Haram mosque (in Jerusalem) whose vicinity We have blessed, inorder that We might show him (Muhammad p.b.u.h) some of our signs. Surely He is the All-Hearer the All-Seer!" (Chap 17, Verse 1)

After dismantling the creature, the Prophet (p.b.u.h) entered Al-Aqsa mosque and prayed two units

He then saw the Prophets, Moses, Jesus and Abraham (p.b.u.t) and was instructed to lead them in prayer.

Next Muhammad (p.b.u.h) mounted the creature agin, and set off, shooting out of the solar system into the heavens. This ascension is known as Al-Miraj.

Gabriel led the Prophet (p.b.u.h) to the Lote Tree. At this point of the Prophet's journey. Allah spoke to him directly and revealed to him the last verses of Al-Bagarah.

It is during this miraculous journey that Allah made the daily prayers compulsory, initially fifty daily prayers for the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and his followers.

After the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) received these instructions from Allah, he came down until he passed by Moses (p.b.u.h), who asked about the acts of worship Allah had prescribed for him.

When the Prophet (p.b.u.h) informed him about the fifty prayers. Moses said: "Your people will not be able to perform fifty prayers each day. I tried the people before you. I had to deal with the children of Israel and it was very difficult for me. Go back to your Lord and ask him to reduce the burden on your people."

The Prophet (p.b.u.h) did so and Allah reduced it by ten, but when he came by Moses again, he suggested that he return and request a further reduction for the same reason, so he returned.

Muhammad (p.b.u.h) continued to go back and forth between his lLord and Moses (p.b.u.h) until Allah said: "There will be five prayers each day, each being rewarded as ten, thus making it equivalent to fifty daily prayers."

The Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) passed by Moses (p.b.u.h) once more and informed him of the five daily prayers. Moses (p.b.u.h) repeated that he should go back again, however the Prophet Muhammad(p.b.u.h) said: "I have asked my Lord till I am too shy to face him. I accept this and submit to him."

On his journey, the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) was taken to Paradise, where he saw dwellings made of pearls and their sails made of musk.

He was also taken to Hell, when Allah revealed to scenes from the future, He saw people receiving terrible punishments for different sins.

The Prophet (p.b.u.h) then returned home to find his bed stil warm.

"The heart (of Muhammad p.b.u.h) did not lie about what he saw, so will you dispute with him with what he saw?

And he certainly, saw him (Gabriel) in another descent. At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary. Near it is the Paradise of Abode.
When they covered the Lote Tree that which covered it. The sight of (Muhammad p.b.u.h) did not swerve, nor did it transgress its limit. He certainly saw the greatest signs of his Lord. Chap 53 an-Najim verses 11-18.

To this day over 1,400 years later...over 1.6 billion people all around the world perform these five daily prayers as revealed to Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) by his Lord.

Since that revelation and with the spread of Islam, this prayer is perform in many countries outside Saudi Arabia. With approximately 400 million in Africa, 10 million in Americas, over 60 million in China, 1/2 million in Australia, 700 million in South East Asia, 60 million in Europe and wherever else muslims may be they respond to this call to prayer ("Adhan"). Arabic vocabulary meanings from abve story:-
i) Zamzam http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamzam_Well
ii) Alburag"a white creature, smaller tha a mule, larger than a donkey with wings on each side of its hind legs"

In the beginning of topic; Muslims (inspired by Prphet Muhammad p.b.u.h) were challenged on Jesus ascension as one of the credentials and certification that no other religious leader possesses; therefore true story of the night journey (to those who belief verses from quran) defends Muhammad on one of the most critical miracles of Jesus (p.b.u.h).

The story is all about the prayers and not to certify Muhammad as possessing attributes of God ("Allah"). Therefore importance of prayer as read from quran translates:-

"verily I am Allah,
there is none worthy of worship except Me,
so worship Me and perform prayer for My remembrance."

Chapter 2 -"Al-Bagara" (The Cow) verse 22 reads; " For Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean. "

Cleanliness is 1/2 (50%) of faith and The Prophet Muhamad (P.b.u.h) said; "If one completes ( and perfect) the abolution and then says, I testify that there is no god except Allah, the one who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger,"the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him and he may enter through any gate he wishes." Narrated by Muslim!

"Ash -hadu an laa ilaha ill-Allah, Wahdahu la sharika lah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa Rasulluh!"

Importance of Prayer
Chapter 20 "Taha verse 14 reads ""Verily, I am Allah. There is none worthy of worship except Me, so worship Me and perform prayer for my rememberance."
