List of 11,105 documented refugee deaths through Fortress Europe
I know if there is a small chance people will try entering Europe but the link below just shows how horrifying the outcome really is. How frustrated & brave these people were.
Rest in perfect peace. http://www.unitedagainstracism.org/pdfs/actual_listofdeath.pdf

The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary) |

I feel sad and depressed reading the list, can just imagine all tragedies behind every number or name, European union has been a very big mistake and only good for few people with big wallets as most of things in this world. May them all rest in peace. |

There are many African refugees coming to Turkey and trying to go Greece than Europe. I met this Gambian woman in Istanbul. She told me she was going to try cyprus or greece and I warned the danger. Because, I know, once greek marine forces forced to turn a boat back to Turkish side, nut the boat run out of gas and the boat has to move even further with the current. It is dangerous. Last time I heard she cross the greek side than she went to Switzerland. Happy ending. :)

Turk why is that a happy ending?
I Take it this woman was travelling illegally? Surely if she was fleeing hardship or persecution she could claim asylum? As this was not the route she took, one can only assume it was for personal gain.
What happens when the authorities finally catch up with her?
Here in the UK we are now deporting mothers with their children who were born here. These Children have no concept of the cultures they are now expected to integrate into, leaving all that they know behind, that in my eyes is a travesty.
Racism is on the increase here.Born out of the media and neo Nazi groups that have cottoned on to these illegal aliens Its not fair, 1000's of immigrants are welcomed daily to our shores. We give asylum to 1000's of genuine cases.
Ive lived in Gambia and spend a great deal of time there year in year out. Ive yet to meet anyone that is starving. Life theres not easy but neither is it here.
I Struggle every year to get funding from investors this year is no exception, for the projects we support and work on, because the visions now portrayed in the media is one of greedy selfish people and not the true vision of a hard working community trying to support and enable its young.
Why should someone who jepodises this be applauded? |

While it is still better than death, you are right that being in europe is not necessarily better, but I have to admit that, human being is more motivated by hope than reality. Going europe may not present better realities but it certainly present better 'hope' than staying in Africa. No?

But, people may not go to europe just for better life. I mean do people go to Africa for better life conditions? No. Maybe these africans just like western people's motivation, go there to have because of other reasons. Such as, modern life, opportunities for better education, freedom, better intellectual environment, girls, boys, pop culture or even adventure. Many reasons. I mean just to walk in the streets of Venice can be motivation for me to move to italy. |

Sorry my previous post should have read ...over my head.
Couldn't think of a place id least like to flee to than Venice(sorry).
Think we all need to take responsibly for the false hope we portray, But Africans also need to share this responsibility .
I'm sorry but from my experience ex pats do buy land /compounds/New builds for financial gain in Gambia and other African states. They can sell up in the west at a very healthly profit buy a place to live or a business as a retirement home or investment with the view to retire and live a very very comfortable life on their pensions something unobtainable in their homelands. Why do you think their was such a influx or the blue rinse brigade. However that financial bubble has burst many ex pats /business wo/men are now selling up or moving on to pastures new due to the current economic climate there. However as far as I know these visitors do arrive in the country legally and contribute to the economy in some way.
Illegal aliens leave themselves open to exploitation they cannot get an education or work in a safe productive environment they are used and abused by organised crime syndicates for their own means before being tossed aside. They certainly will not be getting the opportunity's they desire though the back door. |

SAB posted a list of those who have died trying to reach the promised land of Europe, can I remind those who have posted a little off topic that this was a topic about untimely death in a horrid way. NO one has intentionally shown disrespect to the dead I am sure, but perhaps their posts would have been better off under a new topic . |

How sad....I cant even imagine being in their situation and experincing even a little of the hardship they have gone through. It makes me so mad though. A list of thousands of people who risked and eventually lost theirs life in a chance to get a better future for not only themselves but their families, When some of the people who do come to europe waste the opportunity. |
