THE MAN
It’s not about the colour, the man

Love for every thing
But the man
The Mercedes, the suit
The shoes, the tele
The dress and the computer

It’s not about the colour, the man
The hair dyed with the colour
No problem
The leather sofa
The different cars
Party and respectable occasions
The colour is seen

So it is about the colour, but the man
Yes, the black man
He is the problem, not his colour
But why?
May be we haven’t done enough
May be we are bad competitors
May be we are less ruthless
May be we are less determined
May be we are too perceive and soft
Yet our statue, so strong
Evidently we are not united
Factually we are divided

It’s not about the colour, the man
We will not be loved unless we love ourselves
Man is dignity and dignity is respect
Do we want dignity and statue?
Do we want grace and honour?
Let’s look into ourselves
The solution is there
No more blames
This world is hostile, stand firm you win
Are we standing? Are you standing?
You see what matters is our collective success and respect
Let’s do it, we can

You know I was peeking through your blog last night and came across this poem, Santa. It is interesting, but I will resist the temptation to comment first. I will come back after Dalton, Kaani. and others make their take. Good job again.

Bro Kay &Kaniibaa,

I like that the two of you go first. My reason for that is simple. I don’t have to think hard. Now that you signaled me, I will proceed at your supervision, honestly –with humbleness. I told you before that my uncle have great ideas.

This one looks like an African disease, or the misfortunes of the black man. You wonder why so many misfortunes of disunity, poverty, wars, et cetera…hit on the black man, the author rhetorically questioned, probably expecting some answers in debate but knowing the obvious.

We are beginning to see the “Malcolm X” or “Marcus G” activism in him now. From the get go, he carried a Malcolm avatar with a Malcolm quote. This is his line of thinking: That the black man can move forward from where we are tied. We are tied by our own deeds, pessimism and that of our perceived skinners.

I totally agree with his line of thought that we can do it big time. To do that, we cannot only be blaming. Let us move for solutions as well.

To my little sight, this is what I perceived from this great mighty trailblazer poem. I honestly look forward to yours.

Humbly submitted,
Dalton.

Hie Santa, Did I see a typing error in your use of perceive instead of passive as in lazy and statue instead of stature , I just want to get this right before I jump in. I can also see you come with a different style of poetic display or writing style. Till i hear from you my friend ciao

This reminds me of Shakespeare's tragedy of Caesar, where one of the key players in the plot discussed the issue of fate .'That it is not in our stars but ourselves that we are underlings .I can see Santa discussing issues of perception by the self and how others see the man or how he wants to be seen and so does certain things to get the result he desires. We are generally what we want to be or seen as .As if one is on a huge stage acting a part which makes others see one in a certain way or manner. In the end we get what we want or a result of our actions which though not the one desired, is a certain result of the prior acts/actions .False life styles and bloated egos play a huge part in this and I assume Santa in referring to stature is talking about the African's perception of what makes a great person. I also assume he is questioning the current status of the African/Black person viz a vis the status quo of human beings in the modern society of people, I mean is there a reason why we seem be lagging behind whilst others are speeding ahead! I hope i got one aspect of this poem right ,over to you kayjatta, I am sure you can do better here. Dalton add sugar please

Bro kaniibaa,

You penetrated the mighty poem in an angle as far as i can clearly see now.

Obviously the mention of those worldy materials can only mean the world's fancies, notably in this case the black man, "the Man", like the author titled.

Could it be that some neighbors to Suntou are living the life style described above, or is it just another thought-provoking poem?

We are close to calling the poem a finalist; i.e to say, its theme would be best described as " living luxury lives while not united." uhhmmmmmmm!

much respect to dalton and kaanibaa for their opinion, it is indeed valuable. i shall await the commenatary of kay before i jump in. the comments of the master poets tell us how are far human observation is sophisticated. viewing from different angle.

Thanks Dalton and Kaanibaa for your takes on Santa's poem. I actually think you guys have said it all.
Perhaps I will just say a few things in addition. If you look at the way the speaker in the poem use the word "color" it could be refering to two things. That is the display of material objects, and skin color. It is interesting that the poem trivializes both of them. The poem argued that material objects are less important than the man, and that the balck man's problems are not due to his color.
This is a poem of self-questioning, of soul-searching (fourth stanza). This is confirmed in the last stanza (fifth stanza) of the poem.
It is a great poem.

Santa your poem sweet and refreshing, progressive in the way you point to the solution. The answer lies within after all its not about the colour its the man or woman? If we are always looking outside of ourselves instead of looking within or not listening to our feelings. Then no amount of material possessions are going to compensate for our shortcomings when we've touched base with who we are and can reach out to one another to build something greater as a part of a collective then the sky is the limit.

kaanibaa, kay, dalton and sister omega, you have said it all. the main idea is for us as a people to progress collectively.our individual successes meant very little in the global context. the developed sociaties have one thing in common ,that is, the betterment of every one of their citizen's life. when one wish to progress further that is up to that person but the basics are taken care of.
i also talked about racism, i admit that it is a problem, but one shouldn't be bothered by it if you can fend it off. it is only a problem when you cannot do any thing about it. the reason blacks cry too quickly about racism is because we tend to not be able to change our conditions without others interfarence. racism is endamic to blacks because we lack the things that should make others see us differently. people see wealth instead of the color,, wealth for the whole society not one here one there.
the unity we all see today among people of the same race is perplexing, yet what efforst are the black race doing to come together as a united force, a force that can be respected and listen to. the whites don't like each other because they are white, they see the good in unity and a collective force.
when dalton drives a hummer, samba, pateh, suntou and moo, sleep without food, dalton's hummer driving is useless here. the remarks on sunto, pate and moo will be the hungry africans or blacks. respect is earned. the black man/woman must do his best to earn it. how shall we do that, is a question we all should comtemplate about. but it is not too late to find our path, we can still progress and succeed in making people of other race respect us and accept our contribution to huamnity and we will also respect and love each other more. there are many successful black in europe, america and other parts of the world. their clour is no barrier.
we can be the bigger men/women we are meant to be if we are focus and determine. this goes with the quest for knowledge and love of each other. the black color is fashion statement among the rich and poor, the professional and celebrity.yet the man is not loved, why? he is seen has a waste of space.his color is not the problem par say. this is simplistic but think deeply about the contradictions. must white folks here own one or two back color items. how many people drive a black car, wear a black dress? even Hitler love his black overcout.
love you all.

Surah- Ar-Rum 30-22
