hello peeps, it is hot here, i forgottenwhat its like to be here in june. I am happy to be back, my small box arrived safe, FOR facts i shipped with robert clare but they do not use ROSAMUND trade they use PASS trading on kairiba aven mr saul secka. everything was fine with his office, very efficient clean tidy and the staff very helpful.
at the port he has a an agent who had the paper ready, clean office, smart and well dressed.
But the rest, WHAAA, you have to go to CUSTOMS house and do the paperwork it took 2 and half hours, snooze far too hot for me. But with my side kick I did it. I can now put that ghost to bed.
I am staying at komo beach which is busy but the area stinks, you walk outside the hotel and the bumsters are lining up to meet, security is an issue with this area.
Now for the news, RICE IS SO EXPENSIVE, 850 dls for 50 kils, people who are on wages cannot afford it because the rent has to be paid and wages have not gone up.
One of the reasons for my trip was to change strategy wnad withdrawn school sponsorship which i have done, but i am now helping three families with small business. I cannot believe that I can pay 600 dls for one schoolyear total fees, BUT the bus fare and lunches are equal to 100 dls a week ( 10 dls day bus fare, 10 dls for lunch) by 5 =100 ( thats for those who did not do MATHS, ONE month 100 X 4 weeks =400 dls for one months, by 8 = 3200 per school year for one child.
that I cannot afford, so change of tactics and everyone is happy.
two of the students i sponsored passed with credits, one is in sos on the science course and another is heading for St Augustines, som happy days for them.
The gsmbians that i know and a few are in good business tell that the rate of exchange will kill the economy, because food increase and wages staying the same = not a good life. Seriously those of you who send remittances home have to factor in some serious number crunching. Remittances are down by 30% according to my inside information. they would like the rates to go back to 50 dls a pound or some kind of trade off.
Gambia beat algiria, football fans were happy, the editor of Daily observor has been fired and Miss Neneh Macdowell will be MD.
Off to brikama today, and lamin, and then tomorrow Niumi and Jufreh, thought I would pay the mosquitos a visit.
Two sets of traffice lights, one at buffer zone. But the queues at the petrol stations is a joke, people are hurting, fuel shortage is high. Serrunkanda market is still busy, and people are still going about life, but just hanging in.
final note myr Yaya, infertily treatment program has been declared a success GO FIGURE.
OFF TO THE VIMTOS

Great to hear from you and that you are enjoying yourself, the news that you give about prices and the fact that people are hurting is not good maybe the Central Bank will take note and reinstate a more sensible rate of exchange 50 sounds about right, remitances down by a lot that is a real problem for Gambians who recieve their money from abroad, when you factor in money transfer charges from abroad and the rate/prices everybody hurts.Ice with your Vimto madam?

hi bev, just go, stary looking during august for last minute bargains, my cost £359, the rest was fule surcharge and airport duty whcih no one can bargain about. but I do understand the need to touch base with your adopted family, things will start to pinch in the next few months 840 dls bag of rice in serrunkunda, if wages went up as much it would b egood, but the moon is made of cheese not so.
