You, who crossed the Grand Atlantic years ago In you vast sail boat Steam ship or flying boat Who invited you here Not me , you surely know
You, who landed on the beaches Breaching my frontiers Searched my land without any legal warrant Held my people hostage For many decades All this time that spent you here Doing what you did and want Without our consent
There was trade you said Was it fair I ask you now You got some goods Claiming title to land and river Making us slaves When it suited you Made us colonial servants Of your mighty kingdoms
In your right hand you held a holy book The other held a gun ,sword or spear Subjugating my people Without care Was this fair
Now that I saw The way you came I too send my children Via that same old route Do not now tell me of the dangers Or ask me why You too braved them afore All I ask is fair play and justice While I pray daily for their safe landing
All or almost all we get is you Sending them back as uninvited visitors To the scourge of hunger, Insecurity of life and limb Oppressed by tyrants who cling onto power Caring less if they die or live As you dine with them at summits of one kind or other Then blame the poor for being too hot Intolerant or rebellious Angry because they are hungry Without hope What do you expect us to do As braving the waves may at times seem the best Like you aptly said A drowning man would snatch at a straw Hoping it would be his salvation Where for does thou blame me then
