Yes indeed, "The Indians are coming", you only have to look around you in Serrekunda to see that this is true there are many Indian buisnesses in Gambia now, running shops to building houses, every Gambian would agree (if they really thought abot it !)that Gambians cannot build good buildings with a good finish, they build buildings that just about do.Shops? ,I am personally unaware of any large Gambian shop whereas there are Good Indian Shops Good Arab shops,it would appear that 21st centuary colonisation has arrived in Gambia in a backdoor way very quietly but rapidly increasing.Oh yes I nealy forgot what about the new hotels spring up? These are my own observations, what do other readers think about the continuing dilution of the traditional way of life in The Gambia.? |

Kayjatta,
its not a scramble for Africa. that happened 2 centuries back and it will never happen again. Yes they might come for minerals but they also bringing something to the table. Scholarships, equipment, technology.
In IT Indian firms are providing cheap solution from hotel software, accounting etc to many african companies. even in her ein The Gambia were there is a huge growth of higher college education we're seeing indian lecturers come in to teach . the multiplying effect of that we will see in 10 years time.
the real question is will take advantage of India/China as an opportunity. we must get as must as possible.
there is a new form of trade happening, called mineral exchange. where Africa can pay for goods and service without crippling herself in painful Loans/debt.
