UTG Matriculates New Intakes By Gibairu Janneh The University of The Gambia, on Wednesday, matriculated its new students enrolled in the 2007/8 academic year, at its faculty complex in Kanifing. The matriculation ceremony is designed to officially admit new students, by the Vice Chancellor, as bona fide students of the University and also to introduce them to university culture and system. This year’s matriculation ceremony marks the eighth of its kind in the history of the UTG. Matriculates were drawn from all the 10 departments in the university. Delivering his matriculation address, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Andreas Steigen, congratulated the students for being fortunate to make their way through to the university, noting that university education is all about hard work, dedication and determination and that they must therefore adjust themselves to be able to leave up to expectation.
Professor Steigen challenged them to deliver to the best of their ability, since they are now university students and that society will expect a lot from them. He concluded by welcoming them to the university and prayed that they will enjoy a wonderful stay in the university. The ceremony ended with a musical dance.
