Educate a man you educate an individual. Educate a woman you educate a Nation. Patrice Lumumba.

Yes its good news for Gambian girls to be offered more scholarships. Now what Gambia really needs is free education for children of both sexes.

Any suggestions on where the money will come from Jambo? Can ordinary Gambian's afford to pay more tax? Will the west stop subsidizing its farmers and stop dumping cheap produce into Gambia i.e Dutch onions driving Gambian farmers out of business? Who then find it virtually impossible to pay school fees let alone living costs. Free fair trade without strings attached making the whole system transparent will go along way then G8 forked tongued summits.

Jambo – from my understanding The World Bank released $8million for development of the Education sector (Third Education sector project -Phase 3)

The project will also support the payment of school fees and textbook and examination costs for girls in upper basic and senior secondary schools through the Scholarship Trust Fund for Girls, a scheme tested during Phase 1 that has since been extended throughout the system

But this could be outside of the referred article in allafrica.com

The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary)
