I know that it's intolerable to suffer any form of sickness and I have great sympathy for those who suffer,I ask myself one question though........if a visa had been granted by the embassy who was going to be responsible for the medical costs that the Gambian man would have to pay,did he have a sponsor .........I have no idea, but I do find it very strange indeed that IF ALL THE MONEY WAS IN PLACE for his treatment that this man would have been refused a visa.I do not know the circumstances and of course the British Embassy will not comment on particular cases (quite right too)
This is a quote from The Observer.

In an e-mail letter addressed to Momodou Sanneh, Sandy Ellis, a nurse consultant at Lymphoeedema St Geoges Hospital, wrote: "I have discussed the possibility of treating you privately here at St Geoges Hospital, including skin grafting, with the consultant plastic surgeon and we feel we can probably offer you this treatment but would need to actually see you at joint consultation in order to satisfy ourselves that it really is feasible. I am sure you understand that we cannot make such an important decision just from a photograph

I personally have never heard of a Nurse Consultant, any nurses tell me about this post is it new to the UK.?

SAB return to the UK on the 8th - I think she will know the answer to your question about nurse consultants.

Whatis the legal situation when seeking medical treatment in the UK- do you need a sponsor ?

If you are going for private treatment that is VERY expensive,Nursing care ,surgical proceedures and obviously some recovery time after the operation,The hospitals want their fees and unless they have some one who will guarentee this money they will not do the proceedures, if you have your own money and can prove it by bank statements then fine if you havn't then you will need a sponsor to assist you, nothing formal about it its all about money.

Quite agreeable that a severely sick person needs all the sympathy and help in this world. What is most disgusting is the excesses of daily Observer writing with a seeming authority. They have outstepped the bounds of ethical communication especially in matters regarding other institutions outside their mandate. There are better ways to fight for Mr Sanneh than openly thrashing embassy the manner they did. Again there is no indication that Daily Observation consulted responsible authorities at the embassy for possible views. I may be wrong.

As if by magic ..... according to the NHS website ....

Nurse consultants
Nurse consultant posts were first established in 1999. They are central to the process of health service modernisation, helping to provide patients with services that are fast and convenient.

All nurse consultants spend a minimum of 50% of their time working directly with patients, ensuring that people using the NHS continue to benefit from the very best nursing skills.

In addition, the nurse consultants are responsible for developing personal practice, being involved in research and evaluation and contributing to education, training and development.

Nurse consultants are very experienced registered nurses, who will specialise in a particular field of health care.

Each consultant role will be very different, depending upon the needs of the employer, but nurses working at this level are amongst the highest paid of their professions.

Hope that answers your question Toubab1020?
