Recently, while i was reading the 'Times Newspaper', one of the most respected tabloids in England(7th January,2008: 19), i came across the story of a bogus university. Unfortunately, i was so busy that i could not inform brothers and sisters who might not be aware of it.
The 'University' called itself IRISH INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY, and claimed on its website to have its main campus in Dublin,Ireland, but according to the paper, the address given only leads to a mailbox.
To enhance its image, one of the leading businesswomen, Mary Chapman, Chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute was unsuspectingly confered a honorary doctorate degree, and her picture had since been put up on the 'university's' website to recruit more students. The sad thing is that they target mostly foreign students.
Meanwhile, Ms Chapman has since handed back the honorary doctorship and severed all ties with the institution. Also, The University of Oxford, which the bogus university hires rooms from for its degree events, had also banned the self-styled independent university from using its premises.
To read more on this story, please visit: www.timesonline.co.uk. Once on their website, simply type in the search engine: irish university and the page will come up.
I hope this saves potential victims thousands of pounds.
