Hi everyone
I woke up this morning to the sound of Sirens - I have a river to my right and a canal to my left - The river has flooded, the road at the end of my street has collapsed - A massive lorries have rolled backwards into the river
I am now enjoying a day of work. There is a real community spirit, lots of people outside their homes which are flooding. There is a real community spirit reminding me of Gambia.
Problem is I took my wellies to Gambia in case I am ever there in the rainy season so no proper footwear !

I live in Hebden Bridge, so look out for it on the news - If you see the lorry in the river, I live about 2 minutes away

Best wishes

Tapa

Take care and I hope that your home has not been affected by the flood.

Oh Tapa, stay safe & I hope the situation improves quickly and the flood does not reach your home.

I have sent you a private message.

Tapalapa it has done nothing but rain here in my part of Yorkshire either! I am sick of it! But I am not flooded out, so I am grateful for that.

The roads around Wakefield are flooding and I am just hoping all the pupils got home safely. My drive home on the M62 was not easy, very poor visability.

Oh for some Gambian sunshine.

Tapalapa,

I hope all is well with you, your family and neighbors. Please update us as time permits you. You current situation reminds me of the bridge that collapsed in my city of residence months back, just 5 mins from where I live. I could have been driving in the middle of that bridge by less than 10 mins time interval when the bridge 'gave-up' ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osocGiofdvc ) loud and disastrous on the fateful day. The Mississippi river in the area is so deep that pillar-pegs are erected from the river banks, clearly noticeable in the collapse.

Our prayers are with you.

Love & regards,
Dalton.

Thank you to every one for your kind thoughts - We spent the night with no electricity - I peeled and chopped all the vegetables I had by candlelight - now I have cooked and froen about six meals so I feel well ahead of myself in the kitchen ! It is surprising what one can do with no electricity !

The lorry was moved from the river to day so Im now free to go to work again - Fprtunately I am the fourth house up on oour Street - The first two houses were flooded as were aklot of others.

This is the fourth flood in about 10 years

Thank u again for your lovely kind thoughts my worlwide family

The word "lorry" tells me that this is somewhere in the UK.

Glad to hear you are OK!
Lots of rivers in Yorkshire collect the rain from all over the place..York badly affected again.

With global warming governments need to be very careful where they allow houses to be built and we need to be careful where we chose to live.

There was something on the news last night about some south pacific islands. If things continue in the same way they predict that in 50 years they will completely disappear. Human activity in other parts of the world is threatening their existence.

Bro Kay,

Scary revelation to that known fact. When we did our geography practicals there, it was determined 5 meters above sea level. I wonder if someone knows how much it is now, especially the rate at which the sea was eating the beaches. some hotels were saying goodbye.

Banjul already has its shere of flooding in 1957 i belive. The whole town was under water. People used canoes to visit each other. The photographs are in the archives.

I think Pap Cheyassin secka as a small boy was on one of the pictures if my memeory serves me right.
