Tourism veterans Mr. Adama Bah and Mr. Sheikh Tijan Nyang of ASSET are joining forces with South Nottingham College, UK and some tourism stakeholders to open the First Institute of Travel and Tourism of The Gambia (ITTOG).
The first course is for 1 year and it's a level 3 access to Travel and Tourism which leads to a Diploma in Travel and Tourism. It has been developed to meet the needs of the travel and tourism industry with a focus on independent learning, practical knowledge and skills. It consists of 9 units including the Development and Business of Travel and Tourism, Customer Service and Sales in Travel and Tourism, Marketing and Promotion, Holiday Representatives, Tour Operations and Tour Guiding Skills and Event Management and Entertainment in Travel and Tourism.
The course is assessed through assignments, realistic role play, course work and also a work experience attachment.
The institute will only admit applicants who have the potential to achieve success through the curriculum offered and therefore basic skills in literacy level 2 tests will be conducted as part of the admission procedure as well as a guidance interview. Mature students with experience are welcome to apply.
The course targets 25 subsidised fee paying students with the following academic qualifications: At least 4 GCE O levels Grade C or above with a pass in English Language or equivalent or a Certificate in Travel and Tourism. The first 25 students to be selected by a panel will only pay D.5000 because the tuition fees are highly subsidised.
Mature students can apply if they have a minimum of two years working experience in the travel and tourism industry or any customer related working environment.
At the end of the course the best 2 students will be offered scholarships by SNC

Momodou, i think with the expertise of these gentlemen, the school should be able to produce a highly respectable crop of trained middle-level cadre for the travel and tourist industry.
I have known Mr. Nyang when we shared the same quadrangle building as he was tourism Director then in the early 90s. I know him to be a credible, helpful and hardworking Gambian. So to Koto good luck |
