The principal of the Gambia College, Dr. Alieu Badara Senghore, has recently disclosed that his college has identified three customized courses for Development and that two have been completed. Dr. Senghore noted that a curriculum for a short course on Poultry Production is at an advanced stage and that a curriculum for a short course on Ram Fattening and Cashew Production has been developed. The principal noted that such courses are vital to enhancing the revenue generation capacity of the college. Dr. Senghore underscored the importance of livestock production in the economy of this country. He said that the development of these courses and programmers came in the wake of a task given to the College by the Gambia College Council towards developing, designing and implementing relevant training programmes in order to transform the college into a training centre of excellence.

Thats good news coming from a national higher education institution, once the pride of the nation. The previous Principal was no good only interested in his pockets. The college had a good agriculture school previously headed by the now principal. I think its the only school left now at the College with the most experienced manpower, from the Head to the technicians. The other schools like Education have been hard hit by the brain drain.
Dr. Senghore is real patriot. He has true love for the college. He could have also left and go international but decided to rebuild the reck Jenung Manneh and co left behind. The college was literally rotting when Dr. Senghore took over. Government should should lend him and his team all the support they need. I believe Badou is capable of taking the college to its glorious past, if he stays. The Council also should be commended thru its head Mr. Alpha Khan another hardworking Gambian.
I could only wish the college and its leadership the best of luck. |
