If a Gambian gets a visa to visit the UK they must fly with Gambia Experience. They are the only carrier that has a licience for an originating flight from The Gambia to the UK. Even though you can pickup flights at about 25 to 40 percent of the cost of Gambia Experience flight with other carriers. This has to stop. Surely this must be hindering the Gambian economy. Gambia Experience has a monopoly that has to be broken. In the UK it must go against the unfair competition rules. Anybody any ideas how to stop this unfair practice.

I would be interested to see your referred document or the wording from it.
I know a Gambian who very recently flew from Dakar to Gatwick. He definitely held a Gambian Passport & his visitors visa came from B. H. Commissioner.
About four/five years back Red Air (suspended in 2003) had problems carrying passengers with incorrect papers. Any airline carrying passengers with incorrect documentation into the UK have to pay the return airfare and incurring expenses etc., or transport the passenger back to where they came from. Whether they had their licence revoke, or were in financial difficulties, I can’t remember.
Maybe because of this, there has been another clause slipped in! You can contact the Africa Travel Association. africatravelasso@aol.com www.africa-ata.org. |

Hi Sab The info came from Gambia Experience. Other UK airlines said that they did not have a licence to carry Gambians to the UK. Gambians can travel to the UK from different countries and use any airline they want but not if they fly to the UK from Gambia. This must keep the prices artificially high. I am with Jambo here the monopoly must be broken.

Serekundajock you hit the nail on the head Gambian Experience makes sure it leeches as much Dalasis of Gambians as possible . Whether it is from money flowing in or out of the country whilst the government sits back feeling powerless to do anything about it. I think that the British Authorities Monopoly and Mergers Commission should put an end to these unfair practices. As Gambian Experience is a UK Registered Company; it seems to breaking the UK Equal Opportunities Laws for one, and has a monopoly on the foreign exchange flowing into Gambia through tourism , and it has shackled Gambian nationals to be forced to travel with them to the UK by monopolizing Gambian ticket sales in Banjul.
Serekundajock you are also correct about tickets on the Gambian side being kept artificially high for Gambians have to pay double the price of ticket holders using the same flight. These sharp practices need to be brought to the attention of the British Aviation regulatory authorities because they stink of price fixing. It wasn't so long ago that British Airways and Virgin were penalized for such practices. It is amazing that Gambian Experience et al are getting away with this for so long. This doesn't look good for Gordon Brown who says he wants to assist Africa's development here is one issue he could resolve.

| Does Gambia have any anti trust laws? If yes, it seems probable that this law is violated by Gambia Experience. But where there is no accuser, there is no judge, as we say in Germany... |

| Is it possible that gambian experience as an organization is more powerful than gambian government? |
diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |
