May be some one can tell us what has become of MOJA. I believed the organisation was based in Scandinavia or so and was banned in the Gambia. Since this organisation was set up in our name, gambians deserve some explanation. Is it still functioning and any achievements of the organisation?

I am as sure as there is death that MOJA memebers may have read this topic. We cannot criticise politicians at home if we cannot stand criticism. MOJA executives need to tell us what is going on and i am not sypathetic to hoarding of public knowledge.
If PPP is not good enough and they had alternatives then they should also not fall victicm to the system they tried to uproot. i have heard of the movement but nothing beyond that. MOJA is part of Gambian history and it is time we write it now before it is lost and fades away.
The bantaba is hosted in Scandinavia where many members reside and they may be visiting the site. Yaya came with Accountability, Probity and Transparency and today no one talks about it. MOJA may seem to be heading that path. Has MOJA joined with APRC as some memebrs have been in Yaya's Cabinet but the honeymoon was shortlived. |

Kondorong, MOJA-G as an organisation is currently non-existent. MOJA-G suffered the same fate as most Gambian organisations when you have reactionary elements in the executive with their hidden agendas based on narrow-mindedness, tribalism and nepotism. Today you have former comrades who have become arch enemies; they would not talk to each other and pretend as if they have never known each other either. Very sad!
In Stockholm, some senior members brought their brothers, sisters, and nephews claiming political asylum in mid 1980's. Some of these people became the most reactionary and I believe one of the disorganising factors.
Many former MOJA-G militants of the home front joined the ranks of AFPRC after the coup in 1994.
The big question is what happened to the MOJA-G funds?

It is unfortunate to hear that. I think i have been vindicated. I have said it over and over again that we cannot blame our leaders because they are a reflection of the society. We have to start with ouselves and then change society then our leaders will be changed.
This no rocket science. MOJA was seen as an alternate pressuregroup and provided hope to many gambians but to suffer such a fate is definitely a suprise as they have claimed justice and the rule of law. NADD has suffered the same fate. Gambians are not capable of mustering courage to see things through together.
As i said in one of my postings, when we had the strike at Armitage, some students went to the school administration to report us even though we were all sitting on the floors or on the windows like monkeys during lessons, no beds or matresses and all the time hungry. I wwas nearly expelled from schoool had the core memebrs not stayed together through thick and thin.
When we came back all the classrooms were furnished, new beds and matresses were supplied and we did not have space for storage. Today Armitage students owe us a lot of gratitude for that. Most of us are wolves in sheep clothing. That is why i try to go it alone these days because you will always be stabbed in the back even if you are sticking out your neck for their own good.
I am not suprised that Yaya has said that he has over one million people to choose from for positions. He knows gambians will do anything to for their own selfish interest even to the point of sacrificing a blood relation.
May be this is our fate as gambians and we need to stop complaining and do something to improve our lives. Soem have said that it is lack of education but we have been betrayed by the intellectuals among us and not the illiterate farmers. They stayed the course while people in positions of power raked the nations coffers for self advancement.
TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY ANDD PROBITY. MOJA NEEDS TO LIVE UP TO EXPECTATION. YOU CANNOT HELP PUT OUT FIRE SOMEWHERE WHEN YOUR OWN BACK YARD IS IN FLAMES. CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME. GAMBIANS DEMAND ANSWERS. |

Hi Boy When did you become Dr. OSagieffoe Kwame? Well concerning MOJA G, it was dis-organised due to greed and nepotism. The group's many menbers now live in sweden and had long since cut off communications with their comorades.likewise, so many member are now top brass in the APRC and don't mind MOJA G or whether the group should be active anymore because they were only sheep in wolves clothings. Then, they were pretending to have Africa at heart but these people are the worst fighters for justice Africa has produced since 1899.The MOJA funds are within the two groups the treasurer and the chairman with some top executive members who are worst enemies today. Greed, janfa of the century, heartless and brainless became their goal thus its ineffectiveness.I nearly became a member in early 90s,but God saved me I didnot became associated with such people I had once hold in high esteam.I know so many of their executive Gambia branch who now would not look at you if you want to revive MOJA G. Thanks,Boy I have to go as am so tight up. Mankajang Janyanfara |

I have noticed one thing. When it comes to issues about leadership, we quickly contribute and sooner or later we are flooded with postings. If it is about accountability regarding non political memebrs of our government, it attracts very few attention.
I raised this issue about MOJA, but it seems i have become a loner in this area. Unless we are ready to deal with our own demons, we should not expect any change in our political lives as a nation. The accounability we demand of our politicians should also be seen in our own societal groupings.
That is why i kept saying that we should not blame Junkung because we are a reflection of the society that moulds us. Salimina has echoed the same sentiments. The discipline we talk of must start with ourselves to translate itself at the natuional level. Eventually, some one will succeed Junkung who will do just the same as is happening now.

MOJA???? Who cares. This was a movement whose idea and time had passed (thank god!). This all was in the late '70's! Besdies, they are better off dead! I will tell you why: 1. Kokoi Samba Sanyang 2. Charles Taylor 3. Korro Sallah 4. Paingou George 5. Danso (Eko Mahoney's killer) 6. Ghaddy (1981 tyrant) 7. Samuel Doe All these were members of MOJA (Movement for Justice in Africa). In Gambia it was MOJA-G. Now I will not name other names, becuase these people were not as bad as the ones I just named....BUT some (nameless) are the very ones now serving AJJ and APRC under the name of progress. They are all corrupt, and opportnistic. They have proven that they just wanted to get rich...that's all. They were never sincere. Sorry, but history has shown us this..... |

Good to know this. You have added something new. I did not know Kukoi was part of MOJA. The organisationwas raising funds in the name of Gambia. What has become of its accounts. Anything left.
Accountability must start with ourselves before we can stand up to our politicians.
Thanks OB1 for that layer of information. What did they stand for. Are they socialist as Kukoi seems to be. |
