Councillors in URR Pass Resolution To The Chairman By Lamin Fatty
According to sources councillors in U.R.R have passed a resolution to the chairman of the Basse Area Council Alhagie Kanimang Sanneh for demolition of the newly constructed canteens in the Basse Market as well as repayment of the alleged money taken from the canteen owners.
According to a source the meeting, which was held at the Area Council chambers in Basse, was said to be attended by the chairman of the Basse Area Council. However according to reports with all the decisions taken by the councillors over the demolition of the said canteens, they were finally convinced by the authorities that demolition of the canteens would cause a great loss to the owners, since most of them are said to have spent thousands of dalasis to erect their structures. Reports said the councillors finally accepted the condition that the canteens will no more be demolished but the alleged money that was collected from various canteen owners must be paid latest 20th October 2007 by whoever responsible.
The Chairman of the Basse Area council Mr. Kanimang Sanneh in an interview with this reporter said, he summoned a meeting with the councillors. He said the information that a resolution was passed to demolish all the canteens was incorrect but as he admitted, the alleged money that was collected from canteen owners must be paid by the deadline; that if demolition is going to affect anyone it would not be more than 3 canteens.
For the benefit of the readers, Basse Community Market was said to be constructed in a way that will help the fire and ambulance services to pass through in case of any fire disaster, but with the construction of the canteens in the market, sources said it will be practically impossible for the vehicles to pass through to remedy any situation of such a nature. The councillors who were said to be trying their best to prevent any future fire disaster resulting to the tight nature of the market, are said to be finally convinced by the authorities that demolition is not the solution since it would cause big losses to the owners who are also contributing towards the socio- economic development of the country and Basse in particular.
