It would be a fair sentence, if he doesn`t die in prison - desperate people do desperate things but it doesn`t mean they should loose their life over material goods such as TV`s, generators etc.
Please have some compassion for all concerned. I do not know this man or his history- British Justice looks at the background to the person before passing sentence.I just hope he survives it.

This situation makes me very sad

Did this man steal bread or food because he or his family were hungry,No he stole things that belonged to someone else who had locked and secured their home and of substantial value, that is WRONG,,compassion, yes of course,Hope he dosn't die in prison,of course,I was not present at the case but enquiry would certainly have been made into the man's background I am sure, after all Gambian Law is based upon the British system. The Magistrate gave the defendant credit for pleading guilty and helping the Police recover the missing items. The man is a self confessed Thief allbe it that he was sorry after the event,Tapalapa what sentence would you have imposed?

this was pure greed, he was relying on the fact that people settle matters between themselves, but more gambians are waking up to the fact that they can go to the courts for recourse, justice and compensation.
secondly whatever reason for the theft, it is still theft, can you imagine what signals this sends out if he is allowed to get away with it.

secondly the owner of the propery worked for her goods, they are hers and not anyone elses, GREED PURE AND SIMPLE
