So called islamic terrorism. What is it? What are the causes? It is well debated from western point of view. So what is it from our perspective? We should also be self critical to understand the causes and how can we overcome this.
First of all, the term 'islamic terrorism' is wrong. That is a prejudice already. I mean they never called christain terrorism when irish catolics did it. It was nationalism. Or palestinian. The irish cause and palestinian same but west do not mind to label 'palestinian national struggle as islamic' while they don't do the same for irish. So 'islamic terrorism is indeed wrong. Let us call it, terrorism who happens to be committed by some muslims'. So what is terrorism?
Another confusion again. The interchangable use of 'freedom fighthers', 'rebel', 'warriors', 'terrorism'. I mean osama was freedom fighter once, now terrorist. So what are the differences. For example is there are differences between what palestinian doing and what osama doing. Or iraqis. How is terrorism different from war, rebel movement?
Another term we must identify is state terrorism. For example, the state of israel's use of violance to assasinate palestinians. Is there such thing as state terrorism?
I guesss first step to describe terrorism and its versions. Next, what are the causes? Religious radicalism. I think that exist. Reaction to imperialism. That is the main factor. Social issues? I mean palestinian do not have job, no health care, under occupation of israeli soldiers. Yeah social issue must be the cause.
And finally solutions. Rather than focusing what western does, we should provide self-critism and focus on what 'we' can do. So what do you guys all think?

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |
