I have noticed in the past few months that sensible leglislation has been enacted , and more serious courses of action have been initated,a case in point was where a man was fined D10000 or go to prison for No driving licence,( http://allafrica.com/stories/200709101344.html ) a stern lesson to all to make sure they can drive better by obtainig a driving licence. It seem that decrees from H.E. Jammeh have become a thing of the past? is someone from outside The Gambia giving advice on how to improve democracy, and the court system? Not that all the decrees failed to make improvements, operation Clean the nation was observed and does make short term improvement on the environment.

approximately US$300. seem a bit austere. i wonder how may licence the convict could have legally paid for with that sum?
The courts must never seen to be abusive, lest it undermine the very essence of that which it promotes. JUSTICE.

Just a thought, how much is a Driving licence these days it used to be D300. A fine of D2000 or a year in jail sounds a bit steep too for no horn, but perhaps the Gambia is really joining the west in that, the motorist is an easy target to get money from, after all if you have a car you have money! |
