I believe Ousainou should meet yaya in the spirit of reconciliaton. What do you think.

Kondorong,
the whole of the gambia needs to reconcile. there is so much difference among the populace. one way to pave this way is for those people we all look up to, to start the process of reconciliation. one fundamental thing missing in the Gambian politics is dialogue among the different political leaders. political leaders may have different political ambitions, but they all converge at one point and that is the development of the country and her people.
i was born and grew up during the Jawara regime, but one horrible legacy that old man left was the seed of hatred he sew within our communities. i remember in some villages in the Gambia, PPP members had their own mosques where NCP members had their own. this has evolved into a new political hatred with tribalism as its main ingredient under Junkung.
It will be a good political gesture if Junkung and Darboe could put their differences aside, sit and talk about the common good for the Gambia.
Unfortunately, this might not happen before October 2006. Even though Junkung has already won the coming presidential election, he would like to punish his oponents for opposing him.
I did say Junkung has already won the next presidential election. The fact about that is not wrapped up in Einstein's "E=MC-squared". The confusion among our oposition parties is a clear manifestation of this sad truth.
The most important thing is that there has to be a dialogue among our political leaders not necessarily between Junkung and Darboe alone. we need it with the whole political array of the Gambia.

Well you spoke for me. Afterall we are all Gambains and that an opposition is a government in waiting whereas a government is an opposition in waiting. Atleast in a democratic society. There should be national reconciliation at all levels.

I may sound harsh on some people but only to make us improve but i respect the right of every individual in the country whether citizen or foriegner. One thing i do not compromise is blatant abuse of power and disregard for our laws.

Once again you have shown foresight. Keep it up BornAfrican. By the way are you a memebr of the BornAfrican band

I do not know what the basis of this reconciliation is.Could someone , either Kondorong or BornAfrican shed more light on what is the big deal that requires a reconciliation ?
Presonally , I think the differences of opinions we have in the Gambia is healthy .We must not be afraid or ashamed of those differneces. What we must encourage is tolerance of dissenting views. We must encourage those in power and everyone else not to marginalize others because they disagree.Their disagreement may hold the clue to our future prosperity.
To claim that Jawara sowed the seeds of inter-ethnic discord in the Gambia sounds to me far-fetched. The example BornAfrican cited appears to be very rare and could have been formented by local politics rather than a deliberate manipulation of Jawara.
Now I have never been a supporter of Jawara.By the time I became politically conscious , he had already been in power too long and I didn't like longterm presidents.
I am always impressed by the ethnic relations in Gambia , which is very cordial unlike some other places on the continent. However , it cannot be denied that there are unscrupulous politicians who espouse and utilize ethnicity for political gains.
Let us disagree a lot to agree; and let us respect those who disagreea lot.
Thanks.

It is a known fact that these two parties have been at each others throats since the beginning. The burning of houses in Tallinding, shootings and beatings at Denton Bridge, death of supporter in Basse, murder trials etc.

This has not happended to any other party in the Gambia except between UDP and APRC. The two must be prepared to see each other as both having the right to elect and be elected. The realtionship is terrible and we are all Gambians and i hope both parties have a legitimate desire to improve lves of gambians.

As to what jawara did, you may see some of my cintributions for the advances he brought to us. Just as Nkrummah said".... if you are going to measure my sucess by the heights i have attained,.... then you must be prepared to measure from the depths i came from....". I have no loyalty to an individual but a sytem that is ready to provide atleast basic substenance and guarantee freedoms without let or hinderance and also the pursuit of happiness to the citizens.

I criticise both Yaya and Jammeh but i also accept the fact that they have both brought some improvement to our lives. I AM A LIBERAL DEMOCRAT

There is nothing better than reconciliation which is a by product of forgetting and forgivig. This word reconciliation takes place between two parties. Unfortunately reconciling with Yahya Jammeh is not as easy as we think it is. His personality is very rare. His mood swing is very unpredictable and could make him to be very intolerant and aggresive.

Therefore to reconcile with him requires a lot of patience and indifference with a collasal amount of willingness to accept a lot of rubbish. Of course I am not against reconciliation because it a social value within our communities. What I want to see is Yahya being a little bit more tolerant and willing to dialogue with the opposition. The opposition are not his enemies but his mirror through which he can visualise his wrongs and launch a corrective action.

Reconciliation through patching up of difference peacefully is a requirement of every muslim. His advisers should endeavour to give him good advises to enable him to be more respectiful and receptive to the opposition. It is without a doubt that the government is an opposition in waiting and the opposition a government in waiting. Mutual respect is quite important between them.

It is great to hear that the government is talking to the opposition and vise vasa.

MAY ALLAH BLESS THE GAMBIA AND HER PEOPLE.

I support your idea talibeeh that Jammeh should mellow his attitude towards the opposition. I know very well that he is very erratic and changes his decisions so often that sometimes before you implemet one in a few hours another change would have been made. It causes so much confusion.

There was a similar thing at Ports Authority where an MD was fired in the evening another appointed and the letter rescinded the following morning and Ports had TO MDS IN THE OFFICE. NO ONE KNEW WHO WAS THE REAL MD. This has happened to many people.

He reallly needs to work on his decisons and unfortunately he has no adviser. He is a type that likes to be cajoled into believeing that he won. He is very competitive and likes to dominate and control. Unless he feels he had achieved this, he goes all out for you. baba was becoming too prominent for him and so was yankuba.
