Ousman...you have answered my next question! I was going to ask what do I require to stay in Gambia for more than 1 or 2 weeks holiday.........
I need a visa? How easy is that to get? Is that all I need? What time limit is on that? When my daughter leaves hom ein a couple of years I am thinking of coming for a few months to teach in the nursery I support. Will I have any problem doing that? |

gambiabev, I don't think you should have any problems staying and teaching in the Gambia. I don't know what visa category this will fall under. |

So therEfore according to Ousman Baby jammeh is a US citizen and she has stayed for more than three weeks now. She then needs a visa. I was told recently that Gambia has a dual citizenship in place to accomodate Baby jammeh.
However i want to see the Gazette Notice in the gambia. It is a requirement that all laws in the Gambia be gazetted before they come into force(some exceptions) but not this one because there are constituional amendments. can any one help or know someone if this has been done.
Respect for the law must be seen to followed by those in high offices if it is to have any significance. IF YOU CANNOT TAKE THE HEAT GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN.
I am not trying to critize Jammeh or the baby but Gambians have a legitimate right to know everything about the first family. After all we pay our taxes to sustain them. No house rents, secutirty, medical free ransportaion, I would ask the same questions even if halifa ousainou or any one for that matter sits in high office. NO PATRONAGE FROM ME. THAT IS TRUE DEMOCRACY. THEY ARE EMPLOYEES OF THE ELECTORATE AND AS EMPLOYEES WE HAVE ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEWS. WHY NOT THE FIRST FAMILY. THANKS FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS AND MY QUESTION HAS BEEEN ABLY ANSWERED BY OUSMAN. |

Unless I am missing something, Jammeh's kid does not qualify for U.S. citizenship (see below). I witnessed a Gambian immigration officer demanding for visa on a U.S. citizen's passport even though the U.S. national was staying only for two weeks. Is this for bribery?
_______________________________________________________________ The 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees citizenship at birth to almost all individuals born in the United States or in U.S. jurisdictions, according to the principle of jus soli. Certain individuals born in the United States, such as children of foreign heads of state or children of foreign diplomats, do not obtain U.S. citizenship under jus soli.
Here is the link for the U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCS).

I left Gambia in 2003 and up to the time i left US Citizens needed visas. You have the option of applying in DC or you can be issued one at the Airport. The Immigration officer was actually doing his job. I am only sure of this in 2003. I do not want to blow my cover because Kondorongs have always been mythical in our society but i know what i am talking about.
It is an unwritten diplomatic reciprocity that if one country places restrictions on your nationals they will atleast, for matters of sovereignty, also ask for the same. Developing countries have made it much easier to be issued one upon arrival although it is not the reverse. I doubt if this will change.
Junkung is very theatrical and and goes all out for anything irrespective of what the norm is. He may have changed this. |

As far as I know US citizens do need a visa to visit or stay in The Gambia. I am a Gambian who holds a US citizenship as well. Last summer (2005) during a visit to London, I decided to proceed to The Gambia for a visit. Upon my arrival at Banjul Int'l Airport, I showed the immigration officer both my passports (Gambian & American) and he made it known to me that by law I'm required to have a visa. But, he made an exception and just stamped (arrival) on my Gambian passport and let me enter without any hinderance. On my outbound flight, I showed both passports again just to signify my entrance and exit on different passports (since I needed the US passport to enter UK without a visa).
I'm not saying this to imply that it's ok to do the way I did, peoples' circumstances are different. I would advise whoever is visiting The Gambia with a US passport to secure a visa before hand, just to be on the safe side (because it is required). Check out the ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS at the following links for reference:

Well BROTHERS ANDS SISTERS, As a Law student and History researcher, I want to join this forum to gain some knowledge. The Gambian constitution(Second republic)has not catagorically stated about a dual citizenship(as far as I know).Though Jammeh's daughter is a Gambian,Idon't know if she is an American as I know very little about the American constitution. As 4 d the Gambia,You are a citizen either by birth, naturalisation,or through either parents born in the Gambia.Mariama's father is a Gambian(I don't know whether Zainab has naturalised or she still hold to her morrocan citizenship). This are ofcause very interesting questions to ask. Yaya is the son of Junkung who was very famous in the fonis as a bugarabu drummer and wrestler.I cannot ascertain his Gambianship as in those days, citizenship was not that much an issue as to question people's nationality. But yaya's mother Assombi Bojang is not born in the Gambia. But Yaya is born in the Gambia I can verify that as I have done some secret serch about this when his citizenship was put to question. Am not sure Mariama needs a visa to visit the Gambia or stay as long as she wants even if she is a US citizen and our laws don't allow dual citizenship.Who will ask 4 her permit? If Jammeh could leave all our sisters and marry a morrocan, why then would you be surprised if he decided to send his wife to the mordern US 4 mariama to be born?Came-on brothers lets talk about something else. Mankajang Janyanfara.
