BREAKING NEWS:HALIFA SALLAH HAS BEEN NAMED AS NADD FLAG BEARER-LEADERSHIP IMPASSE FINALLY LAID TO REST!!!!!
BANJUL, THE GAMBIA-The NADD leadership impasse has been finally laid to rest, as Halifa Sallah, of the opposition PDOIS, was today confirmed as the coalition's flag bearer, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively reveal. Latest reports from Banjul say the prominent and vocal politician was officially named by his colleagues to lead NADD in the country’s 2006 polls. Halifa, a charismatic politician is been described in many quarters as a sellable candidate who could posed as a threat to incumbent President Yahya Jammeh.
His nomination followed the withdrawal of the United Democratic Party leader Ousainou Darboe from NADD amidst charges of mistrust amongst opposition officials pedelled by Darboe. Lamin Waa Juwara is said to have conceded to Halifa’s nomination.
It is not yet clear if Darboe and Hamat will rejoin their colleagues in the struggle to unseat Jammeh come October. We will keep you posted about developments. NADD is to issue a statement this afternoon to announce the selection of Halifa as flag bearer.

Bravo NADD! I wish Halifa and NADD the best of luck. I am ecstatic about the outcome. OJ has to be commended! He has demonstrated maturity and selfless attitude. For those who still harbor ill-feelings or some lingering negative feelings against OJ, the man has more than redeemed himself. He stayed and fought for us and consequently arrested many times. He has an unrelenting commitment to the nation's interest. So, if nothing else, he had sacrificed more than most of us and God even forgives.
Waa Juwara has also stood against injustice numerous times to his detriment. He too has demonstrated selfless attitude and did not hesitate to be the king maker. He should be commended too.
Halifa is a man with unquestionable integrity. He is eloquent and sincere. We have a winning formula! Darboe and Hamat "flip flop" Bah had to be reeled back into the negotiating table. Darboe's refusal to rejoin NADD would show his insincerity. |

This is a good development .Halifa , O.J. , "Mbarodi" , Sedia , Sam , Darboe, Bah and all those who made this possible deserve an applaud . However , this is not the time to further "alienate" Darboe and Bah . Rather, efforts should be made to strenghten the alliance with them (UDP/NRP) under NADD. I have no doubt that this cap fits Halifa, and all things being equal, this could be the start of a new era of governance in the Gambia. Good luck. |

This is an unbelievable news. God's time is the best. Praise be to ALLAH for this highly emotional development. The Gambian political leaders have disagreed to perfectly agree.
MAY ALLAH BLESS THEIR COALATION, STRENGTHEN THEIR UNITY AND GUARANTEE THEM SUCCESS COME OCTOBER 2006.
To Hon. Sallah and NADD I pledge my unequivocal support. |

Halifa is the man that thought us about the constitution, territorial intergrity, etc, etc. He is capable of laying the foundation for democracy and there is no doubt that he will leave office after five years. He will not manipulate the constitution to stay in the state house if elected in oct 2006. Good luck to all gambians. |

hello flagbearer, greetings.
I thank these fellows for patriotism, and i thank the many genuine fellows for engaging them, moreso STGDP officials and other individual patriots.
It is time now now to tighten the belts more, and help them meet both the moral and financial part of the journey.
ARE YOU READY ???
JOMIRADO JARAMAH. Dalton is ready to move to the next step now. I ask all of you to burry any political differences, irrespective of what existed in the past and face the new ball with an angle kick at the goal post. It wasn't and easy journey, we saw some friend part, etc.., it was all for love of our dear country.
For now i reserve the parts that i have in store, and please let no one give up. There should be room to drag Hamat, Darboe and Gomez- all to be one, means automatic victory.
Regards, Dalton.

This is a very positive step forward for NADD. I have no doubt that Halifa is a capable body for this post. However, the real struggle begins to convince the grassroots that NADD is the only way forward. And ofcouse their colleagues Darboe and Bah as without them their main objective (our main objective) to unseat Jammeh is gloomy. These people don't need to be dragged in as they have they have rights to their opinions as to why they left in the first place. There should be room for compromise such as the reasons given for breaking away. I think NADD should look into these reasons so that they can all work together for the betterment of our dear Gambia. People should be very sensitive in their postings because if we start castigating each other then we will ease Dr Jammeh's campaign for him. If we all call for a unity between NADD including Darboe and Bah INSHALLAH our aims will be fulfilled instead throwing cheeky comments at others. SALAM. |

I have just been listening to the BBC Focus on Africa interview with Hon. Halifa Sallah. What a joyous moment to hear from his own mouth that he is now the NADD presidential candidate. The interview in mp3 can be heard or downloaded here. Congratulations to the entire NADD Executive Committee for this choice and to STGDP for their efforts. Good luck to Hon. Sallah!!!!!!
I hope there is a unified opposition by the time we have the elections.

Oh what a day 4 the Gambia?I believe every peace loving Gambian ahould Join hands to congradulate Hon Sallah and give support for the hard task he is entrusted with. The Gambia is facing yet another mildstone in our political history.I also urge Uncle Darboe and Hamat to forget any ill and join Nadd as One of the big wigs in the UDP cannot leave because the court decision that led to the by election which He reclaimed his seat under a NADD ticket. Hon Kemeseng Jammeh has to remain a Nadd member to retain the seat till the next election. So because he being an executive member of the UDP party,it would sound complex if his party leader breaks ranks with Nadd.He also has to play his part to try and bring Ousainou on board and Ousainou has to do it for the sake of the Gambia and His former party MP to try and burry the hatchet and come on board NADD. Your excellency Sallah, you have my fullest support and I wish and the entire Gambia the best come 2006. God save the Gambia. Mankajang Janfara. |

Thanks indeed Momodou for making it possible for interested forum members to have access to Halifa Sallah, NADD’s flag bearer’s 1.40 minutes interview with the BBC’s African service. It’s always a joy to listen to Halifa. Now it’s up to the Gambian electorate to either embrace salvation leaders or pack their luggage and ready for the journey to hell. The rotating leadership of NADD underlined by Halifa, in his interview, is going to be exemplary in African politics. There will always be retributions for desecrating political prophets. Africa is in its present sorry state for desecrating a political prophet like Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president.

is there anyone on the ballot about limiting the terms of presidency. cause that would really help in making our presidents behave themselves if they know that they can only stay for a short while. and plus, as in america, do the presidents get paid an annual salary after there presidency is over. that would help in them not getting greedy during their presidency.. anyways, my aunty told me that the current first lady was a prostitute, please say it ain't so. if it is, then that is soooo shameful. |
