the officail website of ANC SOUTH AFRICA ( africa national congress)www.anc.org.za . let us be connected as africans .let the barriers be brought dowm .every part of the world are uniting .it is our time to stop sleeping .one by one we can improve relations, we can trust each other. we can be respected .
yong black men/women need to stop being too casual. dress speaks a lot about us. we can't change others perception about us we if make them have preconsive judgements. the frequent casual dressing is not a good marketing tool of our strenght, determination and purposefulnes. let us be professional and business like. too often i see brother in jeans in broad working days. where are they going? be professional .dress cheap but cool .self-respect start with dress. peace to humanity. there is no animosity except for the oppressor.

Santanfara, you might like to read 'Sisulu - In our lifetime' I cannot imagine another book so detailed on the history of the ninety year struggle.
Sister Omega - you were not a member when you attended the Free Mandela 70 Birthday Concert at Wembley? - nice to see you have made up for that..and you kept Tracy Chapman along with you all that time until Bantaba! sab. |

I sincerely hope you seek it out.
I have only noticed 'Kondorong' on bantaba familiar with Walter Sisulu. (google him) The saying goes; without Walter there would be no Mandela, but you have to read the book!

Brother Santanfara,
Your advice is very sound and relevant. The ANC link is superb. You are right on the observation about dress and appearance. Fine feathers make fine birds. Respect can be cultivated and be earned. Presentation is a special art and mode of dress is no small affair. I have once picked a wording that goes: " A household is a personal statement, about people living in that house." Personal appearance speaks volume on character. Personal appearance is to some extent a "personal statement" about the person in perspective.

karamba ,thanks for elaborating on my thread. yeah ,brothers are very less self concious. wearing of jeans all the time is very unprofessional and hardly accord any respect. now the over size american basketball shirts are the worst offenders. you see this guys wearing this dress in many occasitions ,and one wonder why ? i like most gambian civil servant now for the fact that they wear our local dresses to work from kaftan to ,tube cloths ,and some waranbas .this is not bad. good image pave the way for so many things. many suspicious cases in europe against young blackmen is mostly to do with improper dress code. i am not making any excuses for those bigots but it a mind set .let us be self consicious and trustworthy. in the summers as well our sisters push the hot weather beyong acceptable norms. you now see african born young ladies pretending as if the sun is about to suffocate them .they even dress more skinpy than the average western sun tan seekers. .why all the unnecessary imitation? if they are hot find .wear decent and respectable light cloths ,but showing every detail part of your body i think is unnecessary. Gambian girls in east end of london are worst culprit in this recent phenominum. i don't know may be i am over sensitive or outdated. but self respect starts at home. |

Sab, unfortunately I couldn't make it in person. However I was jammin in my living room with some family and friends just soaking up the atmosphere from the TV. I used to attend some ANC meetings in Islington though. One of my South African Mentors held an exhibition on his bronze sculptures at a venue in Upper St Angel, Islington. He was under heavy survillence from the Apatheid Police. It's ironic that he is now Minister of Arts and Culture for South Africa it's funny how life goes. jambo , there are lots of good people in the west who when need arise can sacrifice there time and energy to defend the truth. if you follow the social movements there is ample evidence to atest to that. from ken livingston ,tony ben ,galloway ,pilger and many others accross the western world. even university students are understanding of third world people. mandela was supported by many .also current corporate exploiters of third world resources are facing tough challenges from concern westerners. we have to acknowledge this people's involvement in our affiars.they don't need to do any thing since we have to fight for our survival. there are many other westerners who feel we deserve what we get and this people don't care about us .they have their own problem to think about .mutual love in the human family still exist ,only that those with the voice and power silence the voices of reason. i was watcing cherie blairs sister advocating for a free palestine just this morning. she has travel to palestine and have seen the blantant oppression unreported by the world press .all they report is reaction of frustrated and caged humans beings to control populic opinion . |

Santanfara, I see Pilger name mentioned above - assuming you are referring to John Pilger - have you seen his film 'War on Democracy' at the cinema or read his book The New Rulers of the World?

You're right about the news reporting with regard to Palestine; it is always - Israelis are 'murdered by terrorists' whilst Palestinians are 'left dead' after a clash with security!
