I think that the debate is now exhausted. I understand Yank’s frustration over seeing his immediate parent being challenged on his political participation in a widely read forum. But he is a politician, and an asset to all Gambians. I am from a village close to Dumbuto, and BB being a native of the area, our parents always prayed and advocated for his eternal success on the political ladder. But the Kiankas, you know, will never forgive the man for the wide area of land they cleared for the promised airport. This remains a joke in the area. It is said at the time those participating in deforesting the area would often utter thus “Nyi-nang damalem, jariwoo jang nem” [in Mandinka, meaning this year you can fly pass us, here will be your landing next year] upon seeing a passing airplane. How true? I cannot ascertain. But it remains a political joke to share between the Kiankas and the Foninkas on a jovial line. I subscribe to it a lot. [Some humor. laugh!]

That being said, BB is a brilliant orator and a mature politician. BB, like the many others that took positions with Jammeh’s administration underestimated the elements of a young military leader. BB, like many others who worked for this administration might have had good intentions to serve our nation with dignity and honor, and in the process embedded in trouble. The mystery though remains, BB was of the highest ladder in the PPP, and for him to endorse these poor militants within a short time, remains something that bordered Gambians. At that time, a lot of misinformation was circulated, and it turns out that BB was never part of the ploy to overthrow Jawara, as was murmured everywhere then.

But remember many Gambians endorsed these people at the time. It wasn’t only BB. Probably, Gambians are very trusting and we easily believed in the slogans they came with. But Jammeh who came with the slogan “thirty years of political difference, thirty years of corruption.”, and where those that leave our BB when he was in the center of power at the time? My respected Hassan B Jallow was also their minister of Justice, Blaise Jagne, Bubacar Michael Baldeh and the many others. The list goes on nonstop. Moreover, the bigger man, DK is dinning with them now. When he was given sanctuary, he didn’t think of the many others that sidelined him, thereby giving more legitimacy to this callous regime. Politics is very funny. We have seen people like Ganji Touray baptize overnight. I will share with you guys a piece on this political character called Ganji Touray.

The many of us who are lucky and were never part of them, lets thank Almighty God. They have at their disposal a lot of attracting traps. Any of us could have been a victim of those traps.

But yes, BB’s participation in that administration didn’t please his PPP associates, for BB was a man that many looked unto then, and still continue to. He is better being the man he is now, actively participating in the emancipation of nations. That move of his then is best described as an ‘opportunist’s’ move. In fact, I am glad he escaped these brutes on the fateful day he passed through Budduk then to Senegal. He could have been a victim like Koro Ceesay (R.I.P).

We know the stance on the PPP regime of many today. A lot is attributed with them, especially corruption. At least to openly say there wasn’t much dehumanization like observed under this callous regime manned by criminal rulers.

On a final note, I think both you and Hamjatta made your points loud and clear now. You guys should learn to agree and disagree without having to be in a disagreeable state. I personally think that the debate was nice, but if we let it get out of hands, then that will rub us the opportunity to dialogue again at an intellectual level.

Thanks.

Y, aog.
