why cant some political commentators and online journalist let sleeping dogs lie.President jammehs citizenship seems to be getting unecessary attention when attention needs to be focused on important domestic issues back home.Let face it folks this man is the number one citizen of our country whether legally or illegally that is yet to be proved.The interesting part of the whole saga is that up to date no one has come forward to either challenge or tender a credible evidence doubting his citizenship.Does the Kanilai dictator possess a valid Gambian birth certificate yes indeed, does he posess a authentic Gambian passport yes indeed so then what else more to be Gambian.Folks the issue on hand, is the man ruling our country well no he is not.So what do we do about that.Lets attack him on governance and not this silly citizenship issue.Kanilai dictator served in then gendermerie, Army and for him to work in these professions he must have produce some documents authorising his citizenship so this fuss about his citizensip does not carry weight.I challenge anybody in this forum to convince me about president jammehs citizenship.Good day.

I am not aware of the fact that Yaya's citizenship is a question. However, i intend to clarify something you have just said.
Under the Gmabian constitution, merely being born in the Gambia and havibg a birth certificate does not make one a citizen. The birth certificare is a right under international law. To be a citizen, in addition to birth, one of your parents must be born in the Gambia. If neither of them was born in the Gambia then one of your grand parents must be.
Gambia has the same citizenship laws as the UK.
Talk to people in London. All those kids born to Gambians and other foreigners are not citizens. This is a reality and unfortunately, in the gambia even our Immigration Officers do not comprehend this law or they just look the other way.
It is the passport which confirms citizenship and not the birth certificate. unfortunately this should have been investigated by Immigration before you get the passport.However, a child born in Ireland gets Irish Citizenship and that of the European Union just like in the United States.
I think our Gambian law should be changed. There is no better citizen than the one born in the country. Merely claiming citizenship through ones parents even if you were not born in the Gambia is ridiculous when those born in the Gambia but whose parents were not born in the country are legally denied this fundamental right.(although not enforced but could be some day) |

Redeemer, thanks for your positive contributions always.
I share the same sentiments with you about this fellow. Though, his neighbor by village birth, know some of his immediate family members, and parental background esp Jejew Jammeh-extendeded family grandpa, a traditional bones fracture doctor, i cannot advance any proof that he was or not born in Mayoke or Kanil lai. All i know he have a lot of relatives from Kamundai, cassamance where his extreme critics and researchers believes he hails from.
The loose border between the Gambia and Senegal, permits a lot of movement, as a result i cannot mention how many boys or girls schooled with us, and were from the neighboring cassamance. If you are familiar with the loose border- relationship, especially in the Jola villages, people can just migrate and become residents of those villages. The case of believe regarding jammeh, that young jammeh , schooled in the neighborhood and eventually gained status.
Arnold , california Governer, is talking about contesting for the presidency in Washington, and he is pushing so hard .
I will only hold Jammeh for his evil deeds, till real proof to convince me that he wasn' t really born there, and that be fair that the unfairness he meted to Gambians is not reciprocated to him, in a manner unfair to him, as a Gambian citizen.
We will look at it as more revelations unfold, and i believe the qouted source Kebba Ceesay knows the western division more than the younger ones like us, so could be true.
The arguement forwarded by Kondorong is alo true. I had a teacher from Freetown, had her two kids in the Gambia, but she complained to me that all means to secure them Gambian passports proved futile, as she got harassed by immigration officers, whenever she attempts to get it. wHAT IS CERTAIN TO ANY, NO ONE IS MORE OF A GAMBIAN CITIZEN THAN THOSE TWO KIDS, eventually she had get paperwork from the war-torn country to get out of the Gambia. How fair ??

| well am reacting to a story run by freedom newspaper an online Gambaian paper.They are running part 1 and part two on kaniali dictators citizenship.Thanks for enlighting me on constitutional requirement of a Gambian citizenship.If a passport confirms Gambian citizenship of which the kanilai dictator possess then what is these journalist at freedom newspaper after.Their allegation seems to be highly unsubstantiated facts from an unreliable source in kanilai.But my point here is that if kanilai dictator is not Gambian then what a betrayal by the authorities entrusted with citizenship rights because this mans assumption to power has derailed unity, peace and prosperity in our counrty.But I still stand by my statement that questions surrounding his citizenship need to be verified. |
