There is news that the PPP (by a vote of 15 to 5) has decided to put its weight behind Darboe to contest the presidential election in October? Can someone please confirm this? If true, it would be yet another sad day for NADD. Where would this put OJ?

if this news is confirmed what a mickey mouse game unfolding in the opposition camp.Anyway may common sense prevail that will eventually usher in democracy and the rule of law.All the party leaders share one thing in common that is to see the back of kanilai dictator and replace him with a democrat. |

I cannot confirm that information . however if the P.P.P. decides to back U.D.P. I do not think it is a bad idea .I would encourage other parties do the same . This is not about O.J.It is about a party and their objectives .We need to move on beyond NADD's impasse . Matter of fact , if available statistics all indicate that a UDP/NRP alliance could defeat APRC in the October elections , would it be possible , or atleast make sense to go around and help them achieve that goal ? Afterall it is the same goal NADD hopes to achieve . The only issue they probably need to address is how to incorporate the "controversial " MOU into the new framework .For example , the nature of the alliance , term limits for the preidency , the composition of the post-APRC government, ..., all needs to be stipulated . Now this new framework may not be what was envisioned under NADD , but it may turn out to be the best we can make of this situation . As long as NADD 's goal of liberating the Gambia and facilitate the establishment of a true democracy and the rule of law remains the central focus , it is worth it .

Well my dear brothers and sisters, This is news to me but even if there is any truth in this, many questions will be be asked: As one of you had asked what would happen to OJ? First of all,the PPP, now being the oldest party in the country with broad based support. Some of its members are dormant while some are still active.OJ was choosen as the interim leader following the reallowance of the parties in the first republic to contest the election in 2001.The party has an executive membership who choose OJ to lead the party in the interim. If those same members choose to join UDP/NRP coliation, then they should go 4 a congress and choose a confirmed leader because if one of their members is a candidate in the NADD leadership contest,I think they should back that candidate unless if OJ decided to stand in the NADD leadership contest without consulting the executive membership which might possibly happen. Secondly this shows that democracy is spreading in the opposition camp(Am sure some will dispute this and argue that there is hypocricy or betrayals, but really no executive should imposed a leader on the people and the people should have a say in the way an opposition is chosen if they are really genieun about restoring democracy in the country. That was why I was all along advocating 4 primaries to be held so that the leader 4 NADD will derectly be chosen by the people rather than the executive. All those in the NADD executive have diversed agendas and would never agree on a common ground as to who should be the leader(Everybody will choose the one he/she favours and not who best can defeate Jammeh).(this is the real fact and we all know it.) So the people whose welfare NADD alledged to stand should choose the leader no matter what the cost 4 it will stand to run the direct footings NADD'S very principles stands on. Now look allegations upon allegations, blames upon counter-blames. Who is faulty?NADD executive ofcause. And I can assure you all: Unless the oposition comes together as one,Jammeh and the APRC are on the road to another coronation. Examlpes we hear within the executive are thus:Like Dembo by force supporting Ousainou's leadership,Amie sillah/Sam Sarr supporting Halifa's leadership, and not Sedia, Dulo Bah supporting OJ'S leadership and following his party leader(Hamat) ect ect. You see what is in NADD? How can a sensible thinking Gambian who love the welfare of the people entrust these executive to run the affairs of the beautiful Gambia?Look,Gambians are no fools and they will rather die in poverty and hunger than entrust their lives to any unreliable opposition.
Let me not be misunderstood here I am a DEAD head in the struggle to resture democracy in Banjul and as long as YAYA JAMMEH remains the president of the Gambia with his administration's continuation of mollestation of the people,I shall never vote him in. No matter if he always wins so long as I know I didn't vote 4 him,I shall remain blameless for his activitiesand have a peace of mind with hardship. But that is life.
What a shame on the politicians!
Almighty God,please help your poor Gambia. She is crying to YOU Mighty ONE.Come to her aid.I gnow YOU alone can do it and you will do it.
God bless the smilling coast of Africa and the world Mankajang Janyanfara |
