I´m trying to learn more about Islam. The teaching I recieved back home was not the best. I learn to read the verses, but was neve really thought about the history of the religion. I want to know about the history behind the religion abd why we as moslems should behave in a certain way. I am not questioning islam or God, but I just think it´s nice to know why you are doing what you are doing.
So if anybody have a book or anything else you wanna refare to please feel free to do so |

Sibo - I was seeking out prayers in antarctica - and came across;
Islamic prayer calculator/clock device www.freepatentsonline.com/4659231.html The website is worth a scroll just realize the magnitude of calculations.
The first prayer, FAJR, is to be performed at dawn, which is defined as the astronomical twilight at which the center of the Sun is 18.degree. below the eastern horizon. This generally applies, but in some regions the angle is 19.5.degree., and in other areas the dawn is defined as eighty-five minutes before sunrise.
The second prayer, ZOHR, is to be performed when the Sun passes the meridian at that spot.
The third prayer, ASR, is to be performed in the afternoon when the shadow of an upright object is equal to its height plus the length of its shadow at meridian pass.
The fourth prayer, GHUROUB, is to be performed at the time when the Sun totally disappears behind the western horizon.
The fifth prayer, ISHA, is to be performed at the time of astronomical twilight, and this, as will be described later, may also be the time at which the angle between the Sun and the horizon is 17.5.degree., or 1.5 hours (however, two hours for the month of Ramadan) after the sunset, as in the case of the morning twilight. sab.

Islam - Alfred Guillaume - Pelican paperback - It is an old book and answered my questions in a language I could easily understand - I've had it more than twenty years.
Except for one question; The Quran appears to require only three prayers a day, but tradition insists upon five; How did this happen? sab |

Hey! u setting me homework? I started this off by checking Prayers at North Pole or in Space shuttle - which took me to this specific clock invention.
The inventor of the Islamic clock is Barkouki Moghazi F. an Egyptian. So I assumed Arabic - ghuroub - the setting place of the sun.

Some say that Europa is also a semitic word indicating the 'west' or 'the setting place of the sun', much like the equivalent in Arabic today "ghuroub" whose feminine would be "ghurouba". (taken from above website) regards, sab. |

My first experience with the midnight sun above the Arctic Circle was the summer of 2004. The experience had been very confusing and in fact a very strange feeling. I had been waiting for the sun to set so that I could pray Maghrib but the sun never disappeared even until after midnight and instead just began to rise up. Seeing this phenomenon the first time in my life and having not prepared for it, I just decided to pull the curtains of my hotel room and prayed both the Maghrib and Isha. The next day I called to an Imam and asked for guidance about prayer times in such a place where the sun never sets down. I was told that one should pray the same time as the nearest area where conditions are normal. I have since then used: http://www.islamicity.com/PrayerTimes/ to find prayer times of the nearest city. |
