In Uk we have a very old saying which sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. I dont know its origin, perhaps another contributor does?

Of course words CAN hurt a great deal, but my understanding of this rhyme is we can DECIDE that words WONT hurt us. that is empowering.

In the uk we have a society that thinks thin is the best and often people that are over weight are subject to terrible abuse.

It is not politically correct to say something about someone being black, but it is ok to say something against someone who is fat or old!

As individuals we have to decide to not respond to this. To not let words hurt us. It is very empowering.

All this politically correct stuff really gets up my nose,if you disagree with the current thinking then you are classed as a radical, someone who cannot be trusted because you are out of the mainstream its a control thing,is Communism dead in the west?

I sometimes wonder.

"1984" has come a little late but its almost here in 2007!

Freedom, not much left now.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
