I dont know. The earliest principal i could remember was Heddle who was a British. Another one in 1965 was Mr. Sallah who later became Jawara's praise singer in parliament as a nominated MP in 1965.

The Book by Lenrie Peters, the Trial of Marafang is based on a Principal of Armitage concerning abuse of office by raisng the volume of his radio which disturbed the students. One of the students stole the radio to stop the noise and was charged with stealing.

However he was freed as hs ntention was not to steal but escape abuse. It was a play. May be Peters was "revolting" against abuse of office.

Kondorong,
Was it not one Mr. Goddard who committed suside the first principal of Armitage? I shall ask arround here because there are old Armitage guys here. The trial of Marafang Busumbala was written Gibrel Roberts I think. He was the principal of Armitage in the 60s too just before I came there. We used to here of him.

Koto Alhassan please help us out. This Alh. mamour Jagne was resident in Lamen Village. Amongst his children was a one time Director General of Civil Aviation Bye Jagne and a former Gamtel Director Momodou Jagne. The old man was equally an islamic scholar famous for his daytime GAMO.

You are right. It was Roberts and not Peters. My mistake.

Madiba,
Pa Mamor Jagne of Lamin was once upon a time at Armitage school too. He later came to teach religous knowledge at the Yundum Teachers training College. I think he taught religion at Armitage too. You are quite right about some of his children. Otherwise the present director of Islamic Bank in Banjul is called after him as he is a son of Pa Momours brother. He was indeed i great scholar and the children too. Dr Jagne of Lamin Clinic. I remembered his GAMOs because my father was a great friend of his. He brought up Njogou Bah the former diplomat. Where he came from I do not know, but he is a Gambian. His brothers like Pa MamSait Jagne lived in Banjul all his live and his children too still live in Banjul and greater Banjul area. Indeed a great man. RIP
