Darboe's resignation from the NADD coalition has vindicated Pa Nderry and other skeptics who have maintained their "distrust" for the so-called quiet leader. Darboe has displayed characteristics of unbecoming a good African leader. His resignation, despite his statements that he would stick to NADD even if he is not selected leader has proven to be false and shown us that he is a betrayer (a.k.a “jangfa”), liar, selfish, unworthy of our trust, and most importantly, undemocratic. Darboe has even gone further to say that all five party leaders are saleable and he would put his weight behind any of them. Not did we know that he meant that he is the only saleable candidate.

I have lost respect for him and I can't see how Daffeh and other Darboe sympathizers can argue this lie and “jangfa”. However, I shouldn’t be surprise as there are many Blaise Campaores (a betrayer of Thomas Sankara) in our midst that plagued the African continent. Darboe should realize that his support base comprises of mainly PPP and NCP and he should not kid himself by thinking that he can outperform NADD in October. In fact, it is OJ and co. who galvanized their people to rally behind Darboe.

Darboe’s actions should engender resolve for NADD supporters. We should all increase our support for NADD regardless of who the leader is and crush both dictators – Darboe and Jammeh!

Long live NADD!

Below is a story by Pa Nderry posted on the Gambia-L. His sory has been independently verified and substantiated. Darboe tendered his resignation yesterday after numerous "no-shows".

INDEPENDENT OBSERVER NEWS MEDIA NETWORK BOMBSHELL AT NADD-DARBOE PART WITH NADD- OPPOSITION SUPPORTERS "SHOCKED" CALLING THE MOVE AS "RETROGRESSIVE"

BY PA NDERRY M'BAI

Leader of Gambia's United Democratic Party UDP'S Ousainou Darboe, has resigned from the new opposition National Alliance For Democracy and Development NADD. Darboe, who had not been attending NADD meetings in recent times today handed his bombshell letter, announcing his intention of parting with the much talked about opposition coalition. In what was described as a major shake up in NADD Darboe, told his colleagues that he had decided to call it a day with NADD and that his decision was contained in a sealed letter.

His resignation was greeted with shock and disbelief amongst his opposition colleagues, at a time when local observers say there is growing demand for change of political leadership in the tiny West African country. Darboe, according to our usual well placed NADD sources had refused to agree on some of the issues set aside by his colleagues on the issue of the controversial flag bearer position. Darboe, twice failed Presidential contender against incumbent President Yahya Jammeh, is said to be still harbouring interest in the Presidency.

Independent Observer News Media Network, was reliably informed that following his resignation Darboe, had opted to "apply fresh as UDP leader." This according to our sources will enable him to contest for the Presidency under UDP ticket, as NADD is considered as as legally registered political party in The Gambia. Under the current political U turn, UDP is also required to register their party with the Independent Electoral Commission to take part in any future elections.

Darboe's resignation followed an editorial ran by this Editor in the recent past that the UDP big gun was on the verge of withdrawing from NADD. At the hills of the Darboe's planned withdrawal from NADD, some UDP fans including Darboe himself down played the report describing it as unfounded. But today, we are vindicated by the test of time. As we indicated time and time, our sources are unimpeachable and we will never doubt their credibility.

While, the NADD leadership and the entire country, are today "shocked" by Darboe's move, the APRC under the leadership of Jammeh are jubilating in their rooms. Their wish for the opposition to disintegrate had materialised. But the questions that comes to mind are: What will Darboe gain to abandon his colleagues at this time of the struggle? Who instigated him to part with NADD? Was this the promised made to his supporters, when he signed the MOU? Is he not guilty of betraying the trust and confidence reposed on him by NADD supporters? More questions than answers.

A NADD insider who spoke to this medium on condition of anonymity described Darboe's move as an attempt to cripple NADD. "It is really unfortunate that Darboe is taking such a backward political move. We have disappointed the people, because of our own selfish ends. NADD remains in the absence of Darboe, but it is not going to be stronger, as it should be. Darboe, had his own agenda, which is to be the leader of NADD come what may."said the NADD insider.

Attempts to reach Halifa Sallah, coordinator of NADD for comments failed as he was said to be at the airport to see off his wife, who was supposed to leave for France. But NADD insiders confirmed Darboe's resignation.

It would be recalled that the US based pro democracy group The Save The Gambia Democracy and Development Project had spent a significant amount of money in the recent past, just to ensure that NADD becomes a success story. With this latest development, it appears that Darboe's move is not the least helping their quest for democratic change in The Gambia. "All our hopes and past expenses to keep NADD going had been put in the drains. This is really shocking"said a strong NADD supporter.

In another developments, unimpeachable sources hinted that NRP'S Hamat Bah, will likely team up with the UDP to form a coalition. Sources say Bah, had privately expressed strong reservations on the move taken by his colleague Dullo Bah to second OJ'S nomination. We shall keep our readers posted about developments....

Just like Somita, i will have to reserve my comments until it is confirmed that Ousainou Darboe has quitted NADD. It won't be an atom weight of a surprise to me if the rumor turns out to be positive.

Hey All,
Below is the Daily Observer report posted on their website.

Split!
Written by DO
Friday, 03 February 2006

The National Alliance for Democracy and Development (Nadd) reportedly broke up on Wednesday with the pulling out of the United Democratic Party (UDP) - the largest component party in the alliance.

According to sources, the rupture occurred after Nadd’s high profile meeting on Wednesday when it was expected to finally select a leader. Sources further indicated that after weeks of internal wrangling over the selection of a standard-bearer for the party, the largest opposition party felt belittled and disappointed over the rejection of its leader, Ousainou Darboe in his bid to be Nadd standard-bearer. Insiders at Nadd said UDP had always argued that its leader should be given the chance to contest under the Nadd, given the fact that he heads the largest opposition party in the country. “Wednesday was the final meeting for Nadd over the selection of a standard-bearer. We decided that we will either have our leader, Lawyer Darboe taken as standard-bearer or we say bye to them. Nadd is Nadd because of UDP and without UDP, there is no Nadd. I know they will deny this fact but the prove of the pudding is in the eating. Let them go on their own and we go on our own. Can we accept people who do not even have parties per se to lead us? This is ridiculous. We better allow President Jammeh to win the election than allow an election of joke where foolish and greedy politicians will use us to achieve their selfish needs. Let it all end and in fact, we hope to join hands with a party that is stronger and more serious than those other parties that do not even have agendas,” a senior member of the UDP told this paper yesterday.

According to our source, Nadd’s numerous meetings were nothing but gatherings of hypocrisy, as there was a certain party that wanted its member to lead when it did not even have another party to second his nomination. He said even though that particular party failed in their bid to get their nomination seconded and for that matter, the nominee had to withdraw under the grounds that he was not seconded, they could not still say which other candidate they wanted to support. “They remained neutral and silent. This shows you the type of double standard and hypocrisy they play. It also shows you that they don’t have confidence in any other party or people but themselves. If that is the case then let them be on their own,” he said. Sources have also hinted to the Daily Observer that two camps had emerged in the coalition. The UDP is reported to have been supported by NRP while the PPP goes with Ndam. “But one interesting thing is that there is no only a split in Nadd but there seems to be another one in NRP because one of the NRP representatives in the executive committee gave his backing to Ousainou Darboe (of UDP) while the other gave his own to Omar Jallow (of PPP). So the whole thing is mixed up. In fact, the meetings had been marred by bitter quarrels and arguments about who should lead. “One thing that is important to make clear is that UDP did not even make any nomination, but because of our majority, we only presented our leader as the Nadd flag-bearer which the others refused to pay heed to,” the top UDP man added.

Until the time of going to press, the UDP had not officially announced their withdrawal from Nadd, but it has been confirmed that, yesterday, they had had series of meetings with their members country-wide, at their bureau in Banjul with regard to the situation and stance of their party. It has not also been confirmed whether the NRP has pulled away from Nadd with UDP or not. Some UDP supporters who spoke top the Daily Observer yesterday were casting venom on the other members of Nadd describing them as being ungenuine and unserious. Similarly, the other side of Nadd has also described UDP as a power-hungry group that does not have the interest of the country at heart.

Reacting to the development, Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay, a nominated member of the National Assembly and top member of the APRC, said: “This is not a surprise to me. I have always predicted that Nadd would fall like carded wool because they were just a marriage of convenience comprising of people with different ideologies. How do you think they can succeeded. In fact, the amount of hatred and in-fight they have within themselves is more than the one they have for my party. So they have never been a threat to us and for that matter, we were more than comfortable,” she said adding, “this is the first sign of their merciless defeat in the coming elections. I am hereby emphasising my call for Gambians not to take these people serious and continue their support for President Jammeh in his quest to keep the development momentum rolling.”

As an outsider on Gambian politics it seems to me that all that is achieved by infighting in the opposition party is the certain knowledge that President Jammeh will be reelected. I would have thought that this in its self would have focused any insider arguments until agreement was achieved.
You can achieve NOTHING from opposition...you need to get elected.

In very simple terms can someone explain to me the components of the coalition?

Gambia needs a truely democratic party that is of the people. Like the old fashioned Labour party that achieved so much for ordinary people.

I still am hoping that Jammeh will be got rid of at the next election.......... But is that still possible with all the infighting?

Oh my God can somebody enlighten this Gambian brother?
When did you last spoke with Gambians at home?I think you owe Darboe an apology if you truely want democratic changes in the Gambia and not another dictatorship.
I was as angry as you were, maybe more angry than and disappointed than you 4 you might have not been there when(a) 11 student were killed in cold blood, (b)Ousman koro Ceesay was killed and burnt in his car,(c)when members of the then UDP were attarked at Chamoi in the URD, (d)or at the Denton bridge (e)or the killing of njie at Tallinding,(f) the shooting of lawyer Alh. Ousman Sillah,(g) the killing of Uncle Deyda and not to talk of treatenings, burnings of people's houses, abductions and the misterious death of how many young soldiers between yundum and Bakau barracks.
My 'Mboka', 'Musiido','Mbadin','Marrenmo','Ey nyau'or brother, you are very very wrong. How many villages and towns in the Gambia can you stand up and bet.5 to 30 people will recognise you?If have to salvage the Gambia, lets use democratic means to unseat Jammeh and really show the APRC what is democracy.Do you know what had happened b 4 you blame Darboe?Pleade use atleast some pounds or dollars orEuros to atleast call the Gambia, then you will know the truth.
I spoke to some UDP,NDAM,PDOIS,PPP,AND NRP members Today using about £30. just 4 my interest 4 d Gambia.Hearing from both sides,I have come to a conclussion and know where the problem lies.
Darboe has definately done nothing wrong.Infact He is more committed to NADD principles than some executives NADD.What is more democratic than going back to the electorates to choose the flagbearer? How about each contender to produce 5000,people to support his candidature? What is more democratic than these? Is it 4 d NADD Executive to just sellect a flagbearer?Do you expect to unseat Jammeh if you cannot even produce 5000 supporters? My friend lets be serrious and stop castigating one and other.
I fell in to d kind of trap as you've just done but the proof of the pudding is in d eating.Call d Gambia not just yor frens but those on the line from all member of varrious parties and b yor own impartial judge.
God guide the Gambia includding U.

I am not the least surprise that someone would try to justify the unjustifiable, that is Darboe's recent actions.

1) He stated that he would back anybody selected as the leader of NADD and in fact all five of the respective party leaders are "saleable" (his own words). To renege on his word is at best ingenuous. His apparent actions which culminated into his resignation demonstrate traits of untrustworthy person.

2) Darboe's unwillingness to accept the process outlined in the MOU that seems to disfavor him shows that he is indecisive and not a great thinker as he should have thought of all these issues before agreeing to the MOU.

3) Darboe had no one to second his nomination and this shows that he is not favored by the executives and that OJ and Halifa have more appeal to those who know best each of the five candidates' capabilities. A priimary election as decribed by some folks here is not feasible due to cost, potential harm to each other's reputation (i.e. airing our own dirty laundry), and time constraints. Darboe's actions have scarred me and I worry if voted president he would tamper with the law to overstay his welcome in the State House.

Let's be real and not resort to debates of sentiments. Use logic and not justify the unjustifiable. Down with Jammeh and Down with Darboe!

It is reported that Ousainou Darboe is scheduled to make a statement at his party headquarter. I hope he comes to his senses and rejoin NADD unconditionally as this is best for The Gambia; otherwise, he should abdicate his leadership role in UDP. Anything short of this should be unaccceptable. Gambia cannot accept another five years of Yaya Jammeh. We all make mistakes, but it takes a great man to admit his mistakes!

We greatly appreciate his efforts to unseat Jammeh thus far and he should not allow himself to be remembered as the one who shattered the dreams of the Gambians. He should yield to either Halifa or OJ as both of them have more votes during the nomination. OJ has redeemed himself by fighting for us and did not run away (he declined the asylum offer made to him by both the British and the U.S. government) unlike Jawara, BB Darboe, Saihou Sabally and co. Darboe, for those of you who do not know, aided Yaya Jammeh in draughting some of those unlawful and horrible decrees. So you see, we all are sinners! Darboe is better to run in 2011 when the political environment is safer for someone who is not ready to take the bull by the horn and risk his life.

I am wondering if it is time for Gambia to have a strong, educated WOMAN to lead NADD. There is this euphoria about women leadership in Africa and this might also help secure the women vote. Just a thought....

Blackerbery,
I thinkyou got to watch yor tongue as to what you say.
U might hate Darboe as U truely demonstrated but insults and abusive languages are notthe right words to use.Remember He is a father. How would yor childreen feel if someone calls U a liar?Bad wouldn't they?
Lets be educative in our approach to resoulving Gambia's problem.Right now thats all we need against Jammeh (UNITY).People are entitled to their opinion but I think it should be enlightenment for our common goal rather than pelting stones at each othe.We all live in glass houses here.If Darboe's relatives see yor comments they in turn without using maturity responded with abusive language against yor family, it makes the whole forum pointless.
We need a common ground against jAMMEH and can only achieve that by Uniting against Him.
Today when Darboe makes His statement,THEN ONE WILL KNOW WHAT he has to SAY, then there one can make a comment as to how to help NADD in bringing Him on boardif he has really quitted. But U or I don,t kno as of now whether He has indeed left.
PEACE AND LOVE

Janyanfara,
It seems like you have an unconditionally support for Darboe despite his many faults. It is official that Darboe has pulled out of NADD according to news reports from Gambiaand other sources. A man who consistently contradicts his prior statements is simply a liar. I cannot sugar coat the truth. The Gambia is more important to me than Darboe and his sympathizers' feelings. If the heat is too hot, get out of the kitchen. I am one of the most respectful individuals you can meet but the truth is the truth. You tell me you have never uttered an insulting word against Yaya Jammeh and others like him, and I would show you another liar! Use your time to convince Darboe to accept NADD instead of crying foul all over the place! A proverb for you, A man is only as good as his word. Take care!

Blackberry:Please criticise Darboe base on his actions and stop calling him a liar that word sounds very unpleasant from the society that we are from.It is true that Darboe failed to honour the memo of understanding and base on that you could called him a liar but abusing personalities would not help in this situation. What is expected of you is to denounce Darboes withdrawal like i did in many of my articles and called on him to return to the negotiating table as that is what is in the long term interest of Darboe and NADD.I can understand sometimes we tend to lose our heads a bit but politics of character assasination and insults is dirty and nasty and has no place in modern politics.my advise to you brother is expreess your criticism on his actions and stop abusing him as that is very childish and is out of context.Have a good day.

What a shame on you both, why can you both be matured and consider the other side of Nadd,by argueing amongst your selves, you are simply sendind a massage to Jammeh that they can never be united, and remember jammeh said this before,so please lets keep the noise low at the moment till things get clearer, othewise continue your sensiless arguement and futher vindicate the stupid dictator,For NADD please sort this problem out right, there is still room for improvement and beaware thet time is running out on you.APRC is already in full gear campaigning for vote.[:(!]

Darboe's resignation from the NADD coalition has vindicated Pa Nderry and other skeptics who have maintained their "distrust" What is wrong with you people, can any of you tell me in which country on this earth you see a policical coalition lead by minority leather more over who is not even comform as his own paty leader just chair teacher.let us stop this sliy talk, you are saying Darbo is lair, selffish, unworthy of turst, who then will you turst Halifa who betray his own paty leader,or O.J who who is not even party leader,If Halifa is fair to the Gambian people he should not even nominate himself because Sidia is the party leader of PDOIS.In every country a coalition is lead by the bigest party in power or oposition.why should O.J lead NADD? can one tell me the resaion.when you have a bunch of selfish people like O J Halifa WAA-Juwara Assan Musa Camara, and yet you lfet all those people talking about Darbo this and this, the man did the right thing.
We go back to history O J has never bean voted by the peopl of Serekunda but by people from Cassamass,Halifa has bean standing with O J many times he never wins untile the take over of Yaya, with the help of N.C.P,(BLACKERBERRY Darbo can be your father no what to say about him.the man has save many Gambians from prision and some of them they dont even have the money to pay him.he defended O.j and many of them from YAYa including Seriff Dibba but they all are know going his back.We need a man like him not Halifa who start studies from different schools and cant finsh them. let himtell us were he jet his political sicence Degree, some of you ask about YAya´s dr and so on it is time to ask about Halifa we all know of Sidiya and Darbo what we dont know is Halifa it is time for him to tell us his educational back ground.Long live Darbo the Gambia need people him not so call noicy men like Halif or O.J.

To appease some folks here, I would desist from using the word "liar" for now when referring to Darboe's numerous untruthful actions and utterances, a compromising stance I hope Darboe can learn.

During his recent press conference and rally in Brikama, Darboe stated that NADD was registered as a political party "against his advice" and there has been a lack of trust amongst NADD leaders. How come he was one of the pioneers of the MOU and why did he not pull out of NADD before signing on to the MOU? Is it because he knew it was wrong but hoped it would be a mute point when selected to lead NADD? Or could it be he is an inept lawyer and could not discern the consequences of the MOU and NADD alliance? Why would he argue in front of the Supreme court for NADD even though the alliance was set "against his advice"? Why would he give his blessings for Kemeseng to re-run under NADD instead of UDP?

You see folks, Darboe had many opportunities to pull out of NADD before now. The fact that he was unlikely to be voted to lead NADD has lead to his many recent complaints and resignation from NADD. Thus, it logically follows that he was only with NADD as long as he was selected the flag bearer. UDP is a conglomerate of PPP, NCP and others who oppose Jammeh. Darboe would be disappointed come October 2006. He should have stated in the beginning that he wanted to be the leader since he had the majority and should never sign on to something he does not believe. Darboe has undemocratic values and the devil you know (Jammeh) may be better than the angel/devil you do not know.

Please, we all should rally behind NADD and abandon Darboe and Amat Bah, the other betrayer. We should support NADD regardless who emerge as the eventual leader of NADD (OJ, Waa, Halifa, Sedia or anybody else). By the way, Sedia has no qualms about Halifa being the nominated leader for PDOIS, so why do some folks here do.
Long live NADD!
