"Where Is Master Tamba?" Family Members Ask By Lamin Fatty
Family sources close to Foroyaa expressed concern over the continuous detention of their beloved one, Mr. Tamba Fofana. Mr. Fofana was the headmaster of Kudang Lower Basic School, up to the time of his arrest and detention. According to a family source Mr. Tamba was arrested a week before the Presidential election by Inspector Jawo of Bansang and subsequently escorted by one Sawaneh to Banjul where he is still said to be in detention. No reason has been advanced for his continuous detention but according to sources he is said to be accused of giving access to the chairs and field of Kudang Lower Basic School to Mr. Ousainou Darboe and his entourage during the presidential campaign for them to conduct a meeting, as well as advising the students to assemble at the Kudang Army Camp in order to welcome the latter and his deligation. This reporter visited the compound of Mr. Tamba to find out, if he is still in detention, but according to his son, Musa Fofana, his father is still held in detention. He said they have no access to him nor do know exactly where their father is. He said out that sometime ago they were told that he was at Sibanor Police but when they went to Sibanor, they were told that Mr. Tamba was not there. The son said that the continuous detention of his father is creating a big problem for the family because they neither have food to eat not to talk of going to school because of the lack of money due to the absence of the breadwinner. When this reporter visited Bansang Police, he was told that the Station Officer was out and when he asked the officer on duty about the whereabout of Mr. Tamba he said he cannot comment on the matter. This reporter contacted the PRO of Police, Aziz Bojang, concerning the arrest and detention of Mr. Tamba and who said he was aware of the arrest of Mr. Tamba but does not know where Mr. Tamba is held.

Abosolutely outrageous! Arrested for being cordial to a fellow Gambian? We are moving backwards people. I don't know if I can personally stand another 5 years of this this banana republic mentality. Perhaps we should start funding Santafara and Gonna to get the job done once and for all. Just a thought. |

Really, cases like this one make Gambia look like a banana republic.
Santafara seems to be a nice fellow, but he will prohibit dancing. I don't support that. |

Tamba Fofana Detained At Sarengai Police Station?
Mr. Tamba Fofana, the headmaster of Kudang Lower Basic School is said to be currently detained at Sarengai Police Station, a source informed this paper. Mr. Fofana was arrested by the police some months ago. Sequel to his arrest by the police at Bansang Police Station, he is said to have been moved to Banjul.
Since then his family has been receiving information of his detention at different police stations, such as Yundum, Sibanor and Sarengai Police Station. Family members of Mr. Tamba have informed this paper that they are not aware of any charge against the latter. The police spokesperson, Superintendent Aziz Bojang could not comment on the arrest and detention of Mr. Tamba.
Editor’s Comment Tamba is a headmaster. What type of message are the authorities who detain Tamba sending to the children of his school? No person should be detained for more than 72 hours without trial. The continued detention of Tamba without trial is a flagrant violation of the constitution. As the president is sworn in we hope he will ensure that respect for fundamental rights and freedom will be uppermost in his message to the nation.

Perhaps those who blame anyone keeping away from these unlawful encounters will make sense from what is happening to Master Tamba Fofana and many others. It makes no logic to go face to face with a brutal killer system once and for all when you could stay away making other valuable contributions. The Brain Drain debate raised by Brother Baldeh is a point in reference. It makes more sense for Gambians to stay away and contribute money, material, and even ideas wherever they may be. If anyone is killed, you go for good. Can you assure everyone that when they return to Gambia as you proposed, they are safe to criticise, write, talk, walk, with no fear of harm? Have you this assurance from Yahya Jammeh who controls the instruments and commands the forces that kill and maim? Think about it. For now, the atmosphere created by Yahya and his group is what needs doing away with. Once home is safe, there is nowhere like home. All those you now blame would one day be in the joyful company of their loved ones. |

| Master Tamba used to be a very good teacher and i remeber his days at Bansang primary school where he used to teach primary six. In fact, he was my teacher and most of the students that passed the common entrance examination came from his class. It is sad that a man that contributed so much in educating the youths be taken away from his family. |

SERE.thanks for your concern but remember the gambia is a secular state just like germany so dancing is allowed. it is my personal dislike which would have no bearing to do with politics. the system in the gambia is joke and a total rethinking is what is needed. this cannot always be done in the gambian way ie peaceful.most countries in the world go throught periods of unstability to have a change of guards but we seems to be caught up in a drama as ibrahima sillah once put during the first nomination of yaya. the guy is like any of our african dictators ,even a pregnant women can be detain just for saying any thing distateful to aprc. some people are happy with that just because yaya is erecting some concrete pillars pass-off as development. we need real freedom of speech and a respect for the citizens rigth. for this course gambians need to stand firm and defend it if need be. i have lost faith in the political process ,so let's see what happen next. kondo do you know jawula forest ? it is close to yuro bawol. aku pikin i am proud of you brother for having to think about the call. it is all part of democracy ,some times force is necessary.just look arround you. |

Lowe,
i don't know the man, but yours is a real loss.
Now, whoever's eyes cannot open to see such, then you are equated to suratul baqara's part "deaf, dumb and blind." sealed with concrete walls from the top, bottom, left, right-circled in it. Out of 1.5 million people, 45% are all victims of tyrannical terror.
If u think the Jammeh is a good guy, stay in Dc or London and be vindicated truly.
I wish Tamba a quick outing.amen. it would have helped one to have a better feeling if Koro ceesay or Deyda was a father to a contributor in this forum.

MASTER TAMBA DETAINED AT FATOTO
Mr. Tamba Fofana, the headmaster of Kudang Lower Basic School, who was arrested on 16 September 2006 (8 months ago) by Inspector Omar Jawo of Bansang Police Station, is being detained at Fatoto. Mr. Fofana who has been detained at several other police stations was brought to Fatoto from Sare Ngai Police Station where he has spent about five months. When this reporter visited the station he saw Master Tamba in cell and called him "uncle." Mr. Tamba's face looked pale and bony. According to sources, Mr. Tamba was brought there when Foroyaa published that he was at Sare Ngai. He was taken to Fatoto over a month ago.
When contacted Mrs. Fofana said since her husband's arrest she was given information that her husband was there and that he was sick. She said the police came and told her that she should leave the station since the person she saw was not Tamba Fofana. It is said that medicaments and food she gave to the Police were returned to her even though she asked them to give the foods to any other person(s) they might have with them.
Readers could recall that in December last year the high court in Banjul gave orders for the release of Master Tamba Fofana on bail. The state has since then not honoured this court order.
Master Tamba and many people have been under detention for over the (72) seventy-two hours required by the constitution of The Gambia. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Jobarteh said he does not know anything about Master Tamba. This reporter further told him about the high court order of last December for Tamba to be released on bail; the PRO said he did not know about that too.
