The political pendulum swings today in a tidal wave of democratic takeover of the House. While the Senate is still up for grabs , it is apparent that there is a big shift of power in Washington already. It is very impressive and fascinating to me how Americans express themselves in the polls. The main issues were corruption, ethics, the economy, health care , stem cell research , iraq and Iraq and Iraq. And the American people have spoken clearly on each of these very impressively. Republicans are the victims of the degeneration resultant of their twelve year longevity in power. The scandals also took their toll. Mark Foley's seat in Florida is gone , so is Tom Delay's (TX) , and Bob Ney's of Ohio. Kansas is completely swept away by the Democrats at all levels , but I am particularly impressed about Paul Morrison's (a former Johnson county DA) toppling of Phil Kline as attorney general. Morrison is a tough prosecutor and he promised the privacy of women's medical records which Phil Kline intended to access. I first know about Paul Morrison in a book by Ann Rule about an arson-murder case in Praire Village , Kansas. Morrison prosecuted that case and obtained a conviction of life in prison for the defendant. All across the nation Republicans , even incumbent Republicans have yielded to Democrats in what appears to be spectacular Democratic rennaissance. It is only two years ago that George Bush proclaimed the "political capital" he acquired and that he was going to spend it , well it looks like it's all spent already. Is this an end of a Republican era ? Well , it might depend on how Democrats utilize their newly acquired power viz- a-viz the Iraq problem , health care , stem cell research , the economy , minimum wage and so on. But the most impressive thing in this game is the "mechanism of power shift". I am left wondering if the electorate in the Gambia (my home country) could express their opinions in the polls like this. I think political power is beautiful only if it is distributed fairly evenly. Wouldn't be nice if the National Assembly of the Gambia is controlled by the opposition so that the Leviathan powers of president Jammeh be checked ?

http://www.gainako.com/ Gainako on-line Newspaper (GON) Motto: Guardianship & Independence ...DEMOCRATS ON THE VERGE OF CAPTURING THE HOUSE; ....................AMERICAN VOTERS HAVE SPOKEN. ..........................................................By Yero Jallow..............................Posted November 8th, 2006
On Tuesdays, November 7th 2006 marked another important day in the history of America, and her citizens. Americans responded in their numbers to vote in their candidates of choice in the house of representation. In an election process well spirited, there wasn?t any violence observed, in difference to politics in third world countries, where elections are normally characterized by violence, and rigging of votes.
In a tight race between the blue-colored Democrats and the red-colored republicans, an early analysis on CNN showed an aggressive ascend on the Democrats? side. The outgoing house was composed of 232 Republicans, and 202 Democrats. While most Democrats retained their seats at the house, a number of Republicans lost their seats. Most states changed their allegiance to supporting the Democrats, basing it strictly on the war in Iraq, Medicare and healthcare. The Bush Administration has been widely criticized by not only outsiders, but American citizens for the war in Iraq that brought a lot of casualties on both Iraqis and American Soldiers. The Democrats succeeded in using this situation to convince American voters that they needed a real change at the house. Political analysts believe that for the first time, Bush will have to live with the trouble of a Democrats? controlled house, which will make his way hard to push his much criticized decisions like going to war, building a wall at the American borders, etc?
In Connecticut, former democratic Senator Joe Lieberman contested as an independent candidate, and won the seat back to the house. Democrats gained momentum retaining almost all they had in the previous house, in addition to Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Carolina, and Rhode Island. At the eleventh hour, the American elections? victory was dependent on three states; Montana, Virginia, and Missouri. The Democrats won Missouri, narrowing down the battle down to Montana and Virginia. According to CNN political analysts early Wednesday morning, deciding Virginia?s victorious candidate could take up to a month, a situation that is likely to keep victory at hold for either parties, since a candidate defeated by less than one percent can request for a recount of the votes. According to CNN political analysts, they projected a victory for the Democrats, a state dependent on the Democrats winning both Montana and Virginia. Early projections by CNN analysts also claimed Democratic candidates were slightly ahead of their opponents. Montana registered absentee?s ballots, and such ballots could be a target for scrutiny, especially now that the battle to the house came to these two states. The trend at which the Democrats progressed in all the states shows they are battling for no other position other than capturing the house by majority.
It is expected that Republican leader, President Bush will be at a press conference later on today. As at now, it is not certain the message he has for American voters, but CNN analysts predicted that Republicans will push their buttons to the end. Senior Republican and Senator of Arizona, Senator John McCain, told CNN Larry King on late Tuesday night that he will sit with other republicans to rectify the wrongs they committed in the past. When asked about his presidential aspiration, and whether the outcome of this election will have an effect on him, he replied ?I don?t know Larry.?
Democrats? political big wingers like Senator Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Howard Dean and Obama were seen on CNN TV late Tuesday night, jubilant over a clear victory. This brings to reality, the next opportunity of seeing a female American President, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, for the first time, if she decides to contest for the Democrats in America?s next presidential elections. Political analysts believe Clinton is likely to win the votes of minorities in a large scale, together with the fame and good reputation she built for herself; a one time survey indicated Clinton was among the most famous women in the world.
In Minnesota, Betty McCollum returns back to the house with a milestone victory. Betty, another instrumental Democrat is known to be an arch critic of the Bush Administration, especially his decision to take the American Nation to War in Iraq. Representative Betty is also a mediator of peace in African countries, something she has been doing for a while now.
While the election process was hailed by many political analysts, some critics of the Bush Administration, notably Dr. Pinkney cried foul a day before the election, in a move to give more weight to the Democratic Party, and signaling tens of thousands of his fans America-wide to give their support to the Democratic Party. Dr. Pinkney, One time federal inmate, and a panthers? veteran was very critical of the whole voting process, describing it as ?farce?. Many veteran soldiers in America were also critical of the Republicans? campaign, basing their decision solely on the war in Iraq.
Speaking to Gambian-Americans earlier, also volunteers to the Democratic campaign, they assured this paper that victory was for the Democratic Party.
The incoming house will also decide the fate of immigrants in America, a political campaign tool, which is normally ignored or trashed away soon after elections. Many immigrants are hoping with a democratic lead in the house, representatives will vote for the ?work visas? that will enable them free movement and to be able bring their families to their land of dreams. Though, America known to be a friendly land to Immigrants, but the hectic decision on ?closing American borders? has in the past sparked heated debates in their house of representation. It is also to be well remembered, the America-wide march of Immigrants to the state capitols months ago in all American States, which was meant to show the importance of immigrants in any nation. While after the destructive 9/11, the movement of even law abiding immigrants has been complicated due to security, but it is hoped that as Americans fight their war against terror, they will also give respect to peaceful, and law abiding immigrants everywhere.
Yet to give victory to the gallant Democrats, but that both parties ran a civilize campaign, and what is evident, regardless of the outcome of the elections is that ?Democracy won with a landslide victory.? America?s new balanced house will enable them to make fair decisions on all matters.
Stay with Gainako for America?s battle to the house of representation.

....FORMER PANTHERS VETERAN ENDORSES DEMOCRATS ...................................................By Gainako...........................Posted November 6th, 2006
In a letter that Former Panthers veteran Dr. Larry Pinkney sent days before the elections, to Gainako, and other US based Newspapers, he clearly endorsed the Democratic Party at the last hour. It is normal that at the last hour, feared figures like Dr. Pinkney, One time federal inmate, and a lecturer at the University of Minnesota, always try to send in articles to give weight to their parties of support. Dr. Pinkney, a living struggle and former Panthers leader, is still alive though aging, but continue to fight for Black movements, and the respect for minorities in the United States. Below, we reproduce the whole piece as sent by Dr. Pinkney.
Election Day November 7, 2006: Another Day of Infamy & Disenfranchisement?
Being disenfranchised economically, socially, educationally, judicially, and at the voting booth [reference attached pdf] is certainly nothing new to people of color in the United States of America. Moreover, with the reigns of government firmly in the hands of the insidious Bush/Cheney/Karl Rove regime, the 21st Century in the United States has ushered in a period of increasingly enormous repression, unmatched stealth & sleaze, and stepped-up disenfranchisement of people both nationally and internationally by the aforementioned US regime.
Whether or not the Democratic Party wins control of one, both, or neither Houses of the US Congress in on November 7, 2006, the "election" in the United States is bound to be yet another day of infamy and disenfranchisement, especially for people of color and for economically poor people in general (irrespective of color or ethnicity) in the United States of America.
Intimidation, disinformation, and legalized disenfranchisement {i.e. legalized lynching} of voters by the Bush/Cheney/Karl Rove regime--through the Republican National Committee (RNC) and its operatives--are bound, once again, to make a mockery of the electoral process and any notion of real democracy in the United States of America. The computerized voting machines--with no provable and clear paper trails-- will be yet another stealth weapon used against democracy and voters in the USA. This is not a prediction. It is obvious, as it has already occurred in previous so-called elections, along with disinformation, and intimidation of voters; all of which are to the detriment of any real democracy. And where is the US "main stream" media and the Democratic Party on this? No where, that's where! It's not as if the "news" media or the Democratic Party's national committee are unaware of the very long list of fascist-inclined Karl Rovian Machiavellian actions repeatedly utilized by this current regime and the Republican National Committee etc. .
So it is that in just over 24 hours from now the farce begins. Unfortunately, it is a farce for which the people of this nation and the world will continue to pay dearly; unless we make a systemic change.
This must be changed. The struggle continues...

Thanks Dalton 1! Look how beautifully worded, politically conscious on disenfranchisement, empowerment and representations for liberty.
Its really inspiring and does not fall short of a constitution for freedom and proper democracy. There is nothing like being a freedom fighter and standing for justice and equal rights! It requires courage and sacrifice for a genuine cause!
However there are indifferences and comparatives with this report from The Point Newspaper Africans Have to Tailor their Own Democracy - President Jammeh under http://www.thepoint.gm/headlines1372.htm The crux of the matter emphasised is based on LIBERTY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE but the politics, policies and comprehension appears to be disportionately far apart, varying from system to system, society to society!
Kayjatta, unfortunately we have n't reach that level of political development and democracy where issues can be properly addressed to canvass votes and rally the electorate to reflect on their political choices and decisions as you envisaged. |
