MATERIALISING THE SLAVE TRADE

Art and Architecture at Gorée Island, Senegal. A talk by Dr Ferdinand de Jong, School of World Art Studies and Museology (UEA) Gorée Island, just off the African continent, served as a transit point in the transatlantic slave trade. This historical role has been acknowledged and in 1978 UNESCO listed the island as a World Heritage site in order to contribute to the commemoration of the slave trade.
