NTA TO REVITALISE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION By Bubacarr K. Sowe
The National Training Authority (NTA) is in the process of revitalizing vocational education by introducing The Gambia Skills Qualification Framework (GSQF).
This announcement was made by Gibou Jobe at a graduation ceremony held over the weekend. He said that this programme will be launched at the Kairaba Hotel in November 2006.
.. the National Training Authority is in the process of revitlisinag vocational education and training and has selected information technology and communication as one of the five pilot areas to pioneer the new Gambian Skills Qualification Framework, Mr. Jobe said.
He went on to say that the NTA has established lead bodies, which are currently working on the development of standards for The Gambia Skills Qualification Framework.
The GSQF is an integrated framework for technical and vocational skills, both formal and informal, Jobe added.
According to him, a standard panel for ICT skills has been established under the Chairmanship of Muhammed Jah, the Managing Director of Quantum Net.

Good news, indeed. I saw a photo of Gamtel's project to lay down fiber all along the Gambia river. A strong wired and wireless ICT infrastructure is a big enabler for education. The more trained people who can do this, the better.
