Thanks for your advice Gambiabev, i think that most people are concerned about the health issues associated with taking children to the Gambia. But ever since my children were babies i have taken then to many countries outside of europe, such as Cuba, Dominican Republic, India etc, so i am not unduly concerned about taking them to Gambia. Obviously they have had the vaccinations that they require and will be taking malaria tablets which they have taken before. I agree that places such as Italy and Spain are great for kids, but they learn so much more seeing these very different places with very different cultures. We won't be just staying in the tourist areas, we will be visiting friends in Serrekunda and also travelling to Yallal Ba village near Farafeni, im sure they will love it. I hope your daughter enjoys the Gambia too.

Hi molly, thank God you did not let anyone turn you OFF about taking your children to the Gambia.I took my boy when he was only 3years old in 2001 and did not stay in hotel with him,am sure Gambia is kids friendly as ITALY and SPAIN.As you know Gambia is not known to have these SICK PEOPLE who rape and kill Little kids as in ENGLAND,ITALY or SPAIN.Have fun molly75 and let your kids enjoy the GAMBIA.We do not have "JIHAD" people KILLING tourist or TARGETING Hotel areas in the GAMBIA unlike ITALY and SPAIN.

Many of the Gambians at the hotel have seen a photo of my daughter and are very keen to meet her! LOL!!!
It is her choice who she goes out with, but I hope he will be genuine and love her and treat her well, whoever he is and where ever he is from.
I would be very sad if she settled so far away from me, but it is her life and I have to cut the apron strings! Next year she is going to leave home and live in Leeds (half an hour away!) that is far enough for now! LOL!

Molly, one day I hope to visit India too. Cuba looks interesting aswell. Your children are lucky to have such wonderful experiences. Travel is a good education. You can learn so much more than from a book or teacher by experiencing things first hand.

I was just always uneasy about my kids having vaccinations and getting sick. We have travelled alot, but in uk europe and usa.

Now I am a single grown up with grown up children I hope to travel alot more to more adverturous places.

~Bev HOW COULD YOU TELL SOMEONE NOT TO TAKE A CHILD TO GAMBIA. KIDS LOVE IT. THAT DEFIANTELY SOUNDED NEGATIVE. I HAVE MET FRIENDS WHO HAVE TAKEN BABIES AND SURVIVED, THE THING TO DO IS BE SENSIBLE.
I AM GLAD SHE HAS BOOKED IT.
MOLLY75 ENJOY YOURSELF. LAMIN LODGE FOR THE DAY IS GREAT.

Lemontime i agree with you about Gambia being safer than Spain, uk and Italy. Gambia is a wonderful place and i love it and the people, i want my children to experience this too. Maybe they won't like it, but at least they will have had the experience. I want my children to live their life. not sit around waiting for it to happen. Gambiabev why wait until you are grown up to experience adventurous places? There are too many places to see and people to meet, they are not all going to come to you. Life is for living, if you wait too long it could all be over before you get the chance to really LIVE.
