Can anyone tell me the history behind the Xmas day cross-dressing that goes on in Banjul? What a great sight! Women dressed as men, men as women, old and young alike. To me it showed a great sense of fun and humour but nobody seemed to know the origin. The closest I got was something about unmarried women of a certain age without children who dressed as men, but it doesn't explain why the men dress as women.

NB, some of those guys wore their womens clothes WELL! But they need to be told that red cocktail dresses really don't go with hobnail boots..
