I wanted a fence wire and wood. wood posts every 5 mtrs with wire running along the posts. coss a fortunate, i am so tempted to buy here and shipp it over, honest.

hi jambo,
thanks for your reply. we will be growing cucumber, carrots, bitter tomato and onions to start with. what are you growing?

there is some problem with wooden posts because of termites so i think we are looking for metal posts maybe every 5 mtrs and then wire along there.

i think it will depend on shipping costs to ship materials from somewhere else and also it will take a few weeks.

Hi there, i am sure you can buy iron posts out there, as for the terminates the wood could be treated, although it might be better to by the treatment hear. If you do not need anything that is strong, how about plastics poles instead of wooden posts.
Still looking into what i should plant, trying to grow something that is needed and that at present they import. If they can grow it locally it would save on costs.
any suggestions.

Why not get a local person to make concrete posts - leaving the holes to thread/tye wire mesh through..Plus concrete gate posts.

Jambo, shame on you to consider shipping out goods that can be made locally - I'm sure you will re-consider some local labour..

sab, i mentioned that because it seemed the easier option for me, i can't find the posting were i mentioned that i was quoted a cost and then told by others that it was too high.
I just decided to ship things out, people were messing around. Have you tried to get a quote for anything in Gambia these days.
Moongarden, someone on the Bantaba will help you perhaps just hint you could pay for Sab to go.
sab, moongarden will consider local people and goods if you give him help, do you not have family out there that can help.

Greetings Sab,
so now i know who to contact if i need a sign writing!

when you are talking about concrete posts i thought these would be more expensive than iron?

what we are really looking for is someone to step forward and say "yes, i would like to build you 300m fence and a gate, i will build it like this ..." and then quote a price.

you are right, we can't justify setting up an environmentally friendly project and then ship equipment from abroad - just thinking of those carbon emissions from the transportation.

the purpose of the project is also to help the people around that area so we will also try to arrange labour from the area as much as possible (well apart from me!)

hi Jambo,
maybe plastic will not last that long in the sun and is also not strong enough.

but you have a good idea about growing something which is not currently grown. while you are deciding why not just plant onions - then you have some weeks to decide what to grow next and the ground is not unproductive.

alas Jambo i already have a project leader otherwise i would have considered it.

we would like to go ahead very soon with the fencing if it is possible to find someone to do a reasonable job at a reasonable price.
