Yeah but what makes you think i want to have the same passport with a Zimbabwean? because we share the same skin colour? North Africa West Africa etc, the continent is not divided on racial lines, AU is open to all i think. i also think you're trying to look at Africa from the example of the EU.
sorry but Europe is far smaller that Africa. we're talking about a huge land mass here. secondly where people travel through is driven by economics. its cheaper of me to fly to Europe and then Nairobi because its cheaper. period. from banjul to Nairobi there just isnt the right numbers for anyone to do business. its economic sense.
from Sweden to banjul in the summer months its cheaper to fly to UK or Amsterdam then Banjul. its just simple economics
North Africans have the same agreements that we have in West Africa and people in South Africa have and people in East Africa have. a kenyan doesnt need a visa to go to Uganda.
each country is sovereign. imagine if no visas were needed to go to Morocco what that would mean for the millions of Africans trying to get to Europe.chaos for everyone. resources are not evenly distributed and this causes migration even locally. South africa has a well developed mining sector looking for cheap labour, imagine what would happen if there was no visas.
Africans are not rich yet to travel as tourists, they migrate to find greener pastures but even this has to be controlled. i think this is were you confuse the two
if i follow your argument why would i want to go to South Africa, Europe is far closer and richer. why dont we have the same passport?. |

thanks Serenata. then this is just a general problem that can be applied to any situation. even in a classroom.
i dont agree with S.Omega that african are suffering from MS. most people in africa are suffering from the lack of daily fundamentals. lack of clean water, drugs, electricity, schools, poverty, income etc. these are the things that occuppy their minds not colonialism or what it was about. |

Njucks - yes, I think it is not at all an African speciality. And yes, I also think most Africans are more busy with everyday needs. But the permanent awareness of being needy, and the comparison with European/US wealth can cause MS.
I think a unified Africa could help erasing the problem. But only if the elites are aware of it, and as long they are not the ones who are the most infected... |

Njucks, you are correct but look at my examples, if you have to pay for a visa to visit another country on your own continent that makes for division. Ask yurself this, how much will it cost you to go to tanzaniz, south africa, kenya and egypt, you are an African travelling on your own continent. If you travel within your region that is one thing, but what happens when you want to cross travel regions. Some people at the Au, travelled via europe to come to gambia. There shuld be case for one African passport that is recognised by at least 70% of the continent. especially the sub-saharan countries. I think the north african arabic speaking countries have agreements.
I know of an Ecowas passport |

njucks i do not think you want the same passport as a zimbabwean, but it is an example of the one passport for all the continent, that is what the AU chairman suggested, if you get it does not mean you have to use it, but others might want it.

Jambo, i get your point. you're right about the passports and travelling etc. i certainly never want to share the same passport with a Nigerian. if gambia and nigera share the same identity documents i will give up my citizenship and go into exhile.
i tried to response because i am angry with the AU chairman, Alpha Omar Konare.
you are right |
