IS THE GOVERNMENT MONITORING THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE COUNTRY?

Foroyaa Editorial: Published on Thursday, 24 October 2013

There is definite need for the state to create the mechanism for the registration of all deaths in the country so that adequate statistics could be kept to be able to determine life expectancy. Amputation associated with diabetes and deaths due to malaria, heart attack, liver cancer and respiratory tract infections seem to be growing. Hypertension is also in the increase. The number of funerals taking place is an indication that something is terribly wrong. Of course the major cause of death is poverty. People are what they eat. Effective treatment or the lack of it, in case of illness also determines how long one could live.

There is clear indication that once a particular drug could not be found in the hospital, certain patients would resort to self made herbal treatment. Self diagnosis and treatment is contributing to the major health hazards leading to the resistance of parasites and many deaths. People need systematic health education to learn how to manage their health. We hope the health authorities will take note.

I should have thought that this is an excellent job for the Imam of any mosque for the area of the location where the death occoured, the fact that would be an addition to the duties of a mosque "Mistakes" would be very rare, as it would be part of a religious function, after all prayers are held for the dead person before burial.
The Government could collect any figures they wanted for statistical purposes from the Imam.
Simple,so probably it would be an easy system to install, just think of all the talk......... talk.......... talk saved in time before action was initiated.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.

That should be very ideal because the local Imam does the naming and perform burial prayers. They are more informed about births and deaths than the medical authorities. However, they are very quick to burry without finding the cause of death and therefore the information cannot be used for statistics on the diseases.
