Police: Theft and misuse of Facebook photos is legal

Imagine someone stealing your pictures, your name, your information and abuse them in your name - without either you or the police can do something about it because it is not illegal.
This article in Danish explains that the police can do nothing when Several thousand people every year get their pictures and private information used on fake dating profiles online.
"46,900 Danes each year are being robbed of their identity online, and the police use considerable resources to catch the thieves who commit fraud and financial scams online.
But in most cases - where someone steals pictures or private information, for example, a facebook profile - the police can do nothing.

10 tips
The Danish Digitization Agency has made 10 recommendations on how to avoid identity theft on the web:
1. Ensure that all programs on your PC is updated.
2. Use both antivirus and firewall.
3. Make sure your wireless network is encrypted.
4. Be reluctant to disclose personal information.
5. Be very reluctant to disclose confidential information.
6. Use password.
7. Never send confidential or personal information in e-mail.
8. Do not disclose confidential and personal information on social sites, discussion boards and chat rooms.
9. Make sure your portable devices are safe.
10. Teach your children good IT security habits online.
