I have been following the statements of Jammeh in which he always implicitly threatens Senegal by commenting on going to war against them if they do not desist from interfering in his countries matters. Abdoulie Wade and Joof became targets of his comments and he deride them to the ground making himself out as the brave warrior who fears none of them as Presidents or Senegal for that matter,,as he claims to possess some thing perhaps arms or whatever to go against that mighty nation. Macky came into play and even after slaughtering Senegalese citizens including a female. He Macky made some noise in the beginning but this petered out followed by useless banter and innuendo. It seems to me the Senegalese Presidency is senile in the face of this imbecile or perhaps suffer his rudeness due to political expediency. You see I have always suspected Senegal of harboring ill will towards Gambia due to economic reasons. Prominent among which is the transit trade. This is a thorn in the Senegalese economic sphere as it clear that most of the goods so being transited end up in the Senegalese market due to corrupt practices of the Duane Senegalese and other security outfits securing the entry points. With a dunderhead in charge of affairs as we now have they feel less threatened by that incursion ,Casamance rebel activity not being any real threat as it were. Methinks Senegal could have easily contained that problem but left it flourish as that too impedes the free flow and movement of goods and people across that region . Other factors come in to play including the kukoie issue, it bogs or boggles my mind as to how they ...Senegal came to issuing him nationality documents even though he was a known adversary of that state as he actively fought them during the 1981 failed putsch wherein several Senegalese soldiers died as they fought to restore Sir Dawda Jawara back into state house. Perhaps they the Senegalese administration thinks we Gambian are too dumb to shush that out by now or even earlier on.What ever happened Senegal would find it very hard to show clean hands in Gambia's political imbroglio.

Correct brother, it's great having this exchange here and elsewhere uh huh..Senegal is a key player in the area's political and economical forum. Some how people seem to disregard the possibility of patronage or sabotage depending on how one perceives matters but Senegal has definitely not come up to par with expectations. If this were a game which it is not ; one could say since Senegal came to the aide of Gambia in 1981 and got betrayed after the event ; the failed confederation etc, Senegal has decided not to intervene again. Another side perspective is an active move on the part of Senegal to see that regime change takes place and the new incumbent serves to beat down the threat of economic gloom which the transit trade was likely to cause it.Just try to see where I am coming from, brother, Gambia was importing far too much more than we consume locally, the bulk of that import gets transshipped in the so called transit trade, and again through Senegal and they claimed rightly too that the bulk of those goods eventually end up in the Senegalese markets, thus depriving them of much needed tax revenue. Recent news on Senegalese media highlight recent customs hauls of contraband goods in "transit" from Gambia which were in actuality being fraudulently imported into their territory. Yaya might appear to a be thorn in the body politics of Senegal but that might a ploy , otherwise this bigmouth attitude of Yaya runs against the grain. What power has he in real terms to challenge Senegal up to the point of war,,at best it can be a war of words as his army cannot stand the might of the Senegalese forces, better trained, matured and equipped if I may say so. I might be wrong but seriously speaking the silence of Dakar in the face of this insolence beats the imagination. The fact remains that Senegal has washed their hands off The Gambia what remains to be seen is how they will deal with a regime change whereby a vibrant economic atmosphere once again flourishes in The Gambia. I expect to see blockades and trade barriers that would hinder the free flow of goods across their borders and a bigger terrorist breakout in the form of a bigger casamance war for independence. All these to stop small Gambia from growing into an economic marketplace .Just my idle thoughts.
