The Point: Wednesday, July 03, 2013

The Gambia National Transport Control Association (GNTCA) has announced that with effect from Thursday 11th July 2013, all commercial transport fares will increase across the country.

In a letter addressed to the GNTCA yesterday, the Ministry of Trade, Regional Integration, and Employment said:

‘Following your request to increase national transport fares and subsequent negotiations with the Government taskforce, please be informed that the Office of the President has granted approval to the agreed fares.’

With the new tariff, Banjul-Tabokotoo will now be D17 as oppose to D12, the previous rate, while Banjul-Bakau which used to be D10 is now D12. In the same vein, Banjul-Serrekunda-Tallinding and Buffer Zone which used to be D10 is now D12.

In the new tariff, Banjul-Basse which was D225 will now be D235 while Banjul-Soma will now be D110 as opposed to D105 previously. Taxis in Banjul are now charging D8 and not D7, while Banjul-Brikama which was D20 official fare will now be D22.

People travelling between Serrekunda and Gunjur will now be paying D23 and no more D20, while Serekunda-Bakau will be D8 instead of D7.

Barra-Farafenni which was D80 is now D90 while Barra-Amdalaye is now D30 and no more D25.
